Boring Sunday for Me 😢😢

Some Sundays are for celebration. Some Sundays are for church family and big pots of rice. But this Sunday? This Sunday was a lesson in humility survival, and the simple sweetness of Garri. I woke up this morning with a pocket that felt entirely too light. I checked my wallet my trouser pockets, and even the old jacket I don't usually wear. Nothing. I was officially completely broke. The only thing I had left in this world was a crumpled 200 Naira note. The sun was high, and the afternoon heat was already getting to me. Hunger started to creep in that familiar, hollow feeling in my stomach. I walked to the nearest kiosk, handed over that last 200 Naira, and walked back with a small lether of Garri and a small sachet of sugar.

The Make Of a Survival Meal

Back home I got my trusted red plastic cup. I poured the dry gritty Garri into the cup carefully, because when you have nothing, you cannot afford to waste a single grain. Then came the cold water, and the sugar. I reached for my spoon and started to stir. There is a special kind of therapy in mixing Garri. The white grains dissolve, the sugar melts, and the water turns into a thick, milky, bubbling paste. I watched the tiny bubbles pop on the surface, forming a beautiful frothy crown. The yellow sun was shining through the window, casting a warm glow on the red cup, making the milky paste look like liquid gold, I wish it was a real Gold 😁😁. I took the first sip, It was cold it was sweet, and it filled my belly in a way that a 5,000 Naira meal never could. The bitterness of being broke faded away with every refreshing gulp, buttt it doesn't fill your stomach with real nutrients, it just fill your stomach with water and the Garri to that's all.

Reflection

Sitting there with my cup of Garri, I realized something profound. I often stress Myself out worrying about money about the future, and about the things that I don't have. But when you strip everything away, the true necessities of life are simple. Always stay consistent on what you are doing, I no I may not have now but someday I will have alot of it and it will be enough for me and my family and to help other to, and the will to push through. That 200 Naira gave me more satisfaction than I have felt in a long time. It reminded me that money comes and goes, but resilience is something you carry with you always. Now my cup is empty and my stomach is full, and my spirit is high. I might be broke today but I am not broken. And that my friends, is worth more than any amount of money. I hope you all had a blessed Sunday, whether your cup was full of money or full of Garri. Life is beautiful when you learn to appreciate the small things. 🥤✨
