Travel Diaries - #Throwbacks - At Lukla
Lukla is a place in Nepal, it's a small village and it is very famous because it is the starting and the ending point for Everest Base Camp Trek. It also has an airport. You cannot really say it's an Airport; it's just a small place where the flights are managed. Lukla Airport runway is one of the smallest runways in the world. If you are in a helicopter, while landing you can see the airport strip and you wonder how an aircraft will land. For a helicopter it's not an issue, but for the aircraft, I did feel it's a challenge.
My trek was to start from Lukla. Morning, I had a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, but due to bad weather the flight got cancelled, which is again very common over there and it can happen immediately. My tour operator somehow arranged for a seat in helicopter for me. I was already feeling so nervous, because right at the beginning something like this happening I felt was not a good sign for me. But then he managed it well. I reached a couple of hours late and with that my trek also started late. I had to hurry up and could not take many breaks during my first day trek itself because before it got dark,, I had to reach to the destination of day one which is Phadking. I did arrive just in time and since it was all day one excitement, the mess did not bother me much.
In all it was an eventful day for me, starting from Kathmandu and arriving to Phadking.
Beautiful memories of my life.
