How are you? By Allah's grace, I'm doing very well.

In the world-renowned anime series 'One Piece,' the popular protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, is typically seen as energetic, gluttonous, or simply having a great time with his friends. However, whenever a complex situation arises or a difficult decision must be made, Luffy’s way of "thinking" becomes truly unique and amusing! With his hand resting on his chin, his brow furrowed, and his eyes narrowed in deep contemplation, his curious and pensive demeanor never fails to bring a sweet smile to the faces of his fans. This particular thoughtful pose of Luffy is one of my personal favorites. Since he is usually depicted in moments of heroism or with a boisterous, open-hearted laugh, I decided to capture this cute yet profound expression of deep thought on canvas. I have carefully rendered the details—his fingers pressed against his chin, his signature straw hat, and that inquisitive, searching gaze.

Step 1

In the first step, I used a pencil on a sheet of white paper to draw circular and straight guidelines, establishing the shape of Luffy’s face, his hat, his eyes, and the position of his hand resting on his chin. This helps in determining the correct proportions of his features and creating an initial rough sketch of his pensive expression.

Step 2

In the second step, I erased the initial, messy guidelines. Then, using a pencil, I refined the drawing with clear, precise lines—detailing his eyes, the scar beneath one eye, his spiky hair, his ears, and the hand resting on his chin.

Step 3

In the third step, the final pencil drawing is inked (line art) using a dark black ink or a marker brush. By making every outline bold and clean, the character’s contours, the shape of the hat, and the folds in the clothing are brought out beautifully.

Step 4

In the fourth step, color is introduced to the digital canvas. Luffy’s iconic straw hat is filled with a vibrant yellow—a flat color that immediately catches the eye against the black-and-white background.

Step 5

In the final, fifth step, solid black is applied to Luffy’s hair and T-shirt to give the illustration a graphic, minimalist 2D look. Through the striking contrast between the yellow hat and the solid black areas, this compelling portrait of a pensive Luffy is successfully completed. Today's discussion concludes here. I hope you've found it interesting. Please share your thoughts on today's topic. Prayers for everyone. May everyone be well. Amen.
