As a test playing nation, each internationally registered teams which have ICC affiliation should at least have a decent knack to play 90 overs cricket. But it is unfortunate that some of the teams haven’t developed the skills it requires to play the cricket at large. Quality cricket is what everyone would wish to play when it comes to domestic and international cricket . It is natural that every team should develop the quality from time to time.
The test between Bangladesh vs Australia started yesterday where Australia hosted the match. It was the second test match that was played in two different venues. In the first match, it was Bangladesh who won the match with the 9 wicket victory. After facing a serious defeat, Bangladesh really wanted to secure a second win with a bigger and larger plan. But it all came down into a serious defeat in the end.
Team Australia really fought back with whatever they had, but from the expert's point of view what I saw that, the second test match where the both teams played never were the true sporting wicket to play. Because at one side, there were high bowling figures and a heavenly grassy wicket for seamers to have plenty of swing and pace. Thats where Mitchel Starc and Hazlewood really made serious impact to dislodge wickets after wickets and in the end, finding a true balance too.
Starc took 6 wickets with just giving away 12 runs. That was just the first innings of Bangladesh when they played against Australian seamers in the second match. It wasn’t a new experience for Bangladeshi batters to confront the Aussies, rather they played the same bowling squad in the first test match where they vitally played well and got a decent victory too. But in the second match, the performance graph really showed a miserable growth.
Bangladesh unfortunately in the second test first innings, got just 64 runs in their bag and then continued to play on. Australia on the other hand scored 210 runs on the board and restricted Bangladesh in just 94 runs in the second innings with a comprehensive win. Losing a test match with an innings and 50+ runs in a low scoring ground really shows up a lack of consistency and team play that Bangladesh has which need to be changed by any standards.
I think in this pitch it was just the second day of 5 day test and that when the match ends in day 2, you could really question the team spirit to the fullest. Here is what it must be checked is the fact that, if Batters fail to play high quality seamers it should be changed by the cricket board. You should focus on training players to adjust in any situation of the match and that is a primary requisite of surviving and fighting out in the test.
Test match is generally a longer version cricket and in this case you should have all your eyes on the match performance, in developing your batting resilience, scoring ones and twos and defending the wicket to the fullest. If a player doesn’t know how to protect own wickets from the swinging and pacy wicket, it means they should look for learning more and adapting to different test playing scenarios.
Thats where Bangladesh really lacks the quality to play on. Liton Das, an opener and upper middle order batter scored 3 consecutive duck in the two test match he played against Australia this 2 match test series. This brings forth a question, whether he can continue to play or be permitted to be enlisted in the playing XI each time against a great and mighty nation.
We might have to reconsider facts and find out where Bangladesh as a test playing nation can improve. It is also a reality that the team played on with a bigger nation and gave out their best. The first test which the team won against the same counterpart truly gives the audience a fair instance of how they performed brilliantly where Australia struggled and faced a bad day then.
There is also one thing Bangladesh should also look for a change, that is if they can play more matches frequently. The number of tests they play are lesser a number and then they should show up more, perform more and then make a chamge to the systems of play too.
Thats how a team performs greatly and there are no alternative to a creditable and longer lasting success in this test match format of the cricket. They should improve to play in all 3 departments of the team and thats a timely need too.
