Have you ever visited a commercial seaport?

It is an incredible sight from the outside: massive ships arriving and departing, cargo being moved by huge cranes—everything is in motion and completely under human command.

Watching this, it seems that—with the right organization of work—everything is within human control.

This is perhaps the ultimate dogma; after all, when a person directs something inanimate, the so-called "human factor" is largely absent. Yet, to be precise, life itself is uncontrollable and always tends to disrupt one's plans.

Looking at such a scene, it seems that—with the right organization—everything is within human control.

What could be simpler? Just cage life and control everything with maximum efficiency, never giving it free rein. But no—big problems arise when you try to keep life in a small cage.

Therein lies the dilemma: set life free and you lose control; cage it, and the cost of maintaining that control may prove exorbitantly high.

Total control is like a perpetual motion machine: in its ideal form, it does not exist—it is merely an illusion.
