Season 34 : Week 7 Challenge: Stranded on an Island…

Hello my dear Steemians,
I think being on lonely Island for a month is not very bad, at least one will know that there are only 30 days and will make sure that a person is busy and can keep himself occupied by something.
For me, I hope that if I am stranded then the Island is in warm climate, nice, sunny days, temperature above +20 and also nice warm temperature of ocean.

What I would take with me to the lonely island it is definitely a book, that I can easily throw into my backpack and it is easy to carry. My choice of book is called "Encyclopedia of Survival – Handbook for Times of Crisis". When now 15 years ago we were moving to UK from Germany, my colleagues in Surgery made their gift for me, knowing that my Hospital was in Wales, Pembrokeshire which is an area at the Western coast and a lot of land and hills so some area has no villages and properly remote.

The book itself "Encyclopedia of Survival” has a lot of useful information for example:
First aid if you have an accident, what you can do and how you can stabilise yourself, like finding something that you could use as a splint for fracture, bandages, how to clean wound.
There are some tips how you can build a shelter made from branches, leaves and also to make a possible bed where you can sleep

- There is an information about some plants, herbs that can be used and how to recognise them
At the end it is just an interesting book that one can read while waiting for the end of the 30 days.

If I would have a little space I definitely will take this item, I can call it luxury item because having easy access to source of fire that is definitely luxury. I would take matches and you can put it either in bag or even in pocket. It is important not to make it wet.
While having fire there are few things that can make your life easy:
boil water, because water could be a source of infection and we should prevent any other diseases through water
if you manages to catch fish it is better to eat it cooked and not raw. At least for me I prefer to cook my food, so long it is possible otherwise, I think if I am really hungry then I could eat even raw fish too.
fireplace, when the nights long and cold it is cosy to have a fire, that keeps you warm and also prevent any animals to approach your shelter.
when you make a fire, there is also a chance that your fire could be seen by anyone who is travelling on boat and notice that hopefully will save you early

I took similar books with me as I moved especially because back then I had no internet plus should be prepared. Take a pencil along to draw.
Thank you for the literary suggestion. A survival handbook for times of crisis and for a deserted island makes perfect sense. Although, when I think about having to use some unknown plant to treat an illness or a wound... I must admit, that scares me a little!
And then there is the eternal question of fire... a box of matches? I think I would take an everlasting flame instead (hehe)! After reading, building shelters and keeping the fire alive for 30 days, I think you would certainly have plenty to keep yourself busy! 😊
