How fast can you drink a half liter of ....anything I guess
I have been involved in contests involving how fast someone can drink a beverage. These were mostly in boozing get togethers and one of my more recent ones involved me losing and nearly passing out because of the attempt to win. I don't think I was ever really all that good at it and would have made a terrible fraternity brother because of this gag reflex or something that I have that prevents me from drinking very quickly.
Some people excel at it though and I once met a guy at a party that was challenging people to a drinking contest and I took it on not because I thought it would be fun but because I am always up for a challenge, no matter what the challenge is.
The guy I was up against made it more fair by stating that he would drink a large bottle 500ml of beer and the goal was for you to finish your 300ml bottle faster than he could do the big one.
I knew I was in trouble when someone counted it down and rather than attack the glass my opponent just sat there looking at me waiting for me to start. Then after I went at my glass as fast as I could he calmly picked up his glass and chugged it down apparently without even swallowing. He has this technique where I suppose he didn't even engage that swallowing mechanism that we all have and instead just poured it straight down his gullet. It was amazing to see actually and at first I thought maybe it was one of those trick glasses that looks like it has something in it but nah, it was a real glass. This guy just had a strange ability that allowed him to properly neck a glass.
I lost the bet but the only bet was to pay for the beer, and only my own beer. Fair enough. To this day I wonder if that guy was employed by the bar. He was also something like 500 lbs so it was a loaded game from the start.
This next record doesn't involve booze, but it does involve a dumb talent as a majority of the Guinness World Records do.
26 year old chef from Finland Tomi Kotilainen has broken the record for consuming a beverage, a 500ml beverage, in the fastest time possible. He was able to get it all in his body in 3.16 seconds. His drink of choice wasn't a beer though, which is probably smarter for a person than the beer-guzzling guy I met that day at a party.

When I was reading this the thing I thought was that the guy that beat me that day at the party, I think he could do this faster. Maybe he doesn't know there is a world record for that sort of thing. Go ahead and count out 3 seconds (1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand) and see that 3 seconds isn't really super fast.
It would be for most people but maybe not to the guy I met that day with his carnival type skills.
That might look like Fanta and maybe it is close but it is actually a Finnish drink called Jaffa

Before you ask, yes, it is carbonated. So it must be quite similar to Fanta or Orange Crush, if you are more familiar with those brands. Now for the old people out there, do you remember Sunkist?
I think that carbonation would make this more difficult, but the guys and girls out there that can completely ignore the swallowing mechanism that is built into most normal humans might disagree with that.
Congratulations to Tomi, I guess. What a strange skill to have. No more strange than balancing a lawn mower on your head or being able to put on 70 T-shirts while juggling a football on your head though.
