The tall man in the photograph is Almiro Crema (born in 1900), an Italian performer also known by the stage name Gigante Golia. He was one of the most prominent "giants" of the early 20th century.

Career: He worked as a professional circus performer and gained international fame, especially after his marriage in 1931 to Teresina Alforno, who was billed as the "Cannon Woman" and considered one of the heaviest women in Europe at the time.

Almiro Crema, known professionally as Gigante Golia, was born on March 14, 1900, in Casale di Scodosia, a small town in the Veneto region of Italy.

Early Life and Growth

Normal Beginnings: He was born to a family of modest means. His growth was normal during early childhood.

The Growth Spurt: Around the age of 12, his growth accelerated due to acromegaly (a pituitary gland disorder).

Physical Scale: By his late teens, he had reached his full height. While posters claimed 9 feet, his authenticated height was 2.42 meters (approx. 7'11").

Local Legend: In his hometown, he was nicknamed "Iena Calore" and was remembered by locals as a "tower of a man" who struggled to fit through standard doors.

Almiro’s family life became global news in 1931 when he married Teresina Alforno.
The Meeting: They met while working in the travelling circus circuit in Europe.

The "Cannon Woman": Teresina was a famous performer in her own right, billed as the "Donna Cannone" (Cannon Woman). She weighed approximately 200kg (440 lbs).

The Marriage: Their wedding in January 1931 was a massive media event. They were marketed as "The Largest Couple in the World."

Children: The couple had a son who, unlike his father, grew to a standard height.
