What actually makes brands like Sandro, Theory, A.P.C. more expensive than Uniqlo/J.Crew/Banana Republic?
I’ve been trying to understand what I’m really paying for with mid-tier designer brands like Sandro, Theory, or A.P.C. compared to more accessible brands like Uniqlo, J.Crew, or Banana Republic (like the stores you would see at your typical mall)
On the surface, some pieces look very similar. So what actually drives the price difference? Am I really paying up for quality?
Basically trying to understand if there’s a real quality gap or if it’s more about branding and design.
Would love to hear from people who’ve owned both and can break down what’s actually different.
I've owned both. You usually get better fabrics and construction in the pricier ones, plus more thoughtful cuts.
I own a few pieces from Sandro Paris Vêtements et Accéssoires and the difference is real. The wool feels thicker, the cuts are more refined, and seams hold up longer than budget brands. You are paying for better materials and construction, not just the label. Those cheaper options are fine for basics, but these last.
