Goodfellas: very good mafia moviesteemCreated with Sketch.

Another flight, another catching up on old movie. This time: Goodfellas, Martin Scorceses masterpiece on the mafia, based on (some) true events. Definitly worth it if you don't mind violence.

Henry Hill, half Irish and half Italian, always found interest in the mafia. Starting innocently, he gets deeper and deeper into crime as he climbs up the ladder and sees all the ups and down of "work", but also his personal life.

I watched The Godfather so long ago that I can't really draw any comparison to the other mafia masterpiece. However, this one IS a truly "relevant" piece of cinema. Henry's character evolution is done very well, from the innocent teen to the hardened, almost hearthless criminal. His narration throughout help reconciling with his (and wife's, since she narrate too) toughts. The wife part was a nice supplement; what DO mafioso's spouses think?

Joe Pesci well-deserved his Oscar. Some of his lines (Funny like a clown?) are truly iconic, and he seemed born for that role. So were Robert DeNiro, Paul Sorvino and all the rest of the cast.

In short, don't miss out on this movie if you won't mind violence. Nothing is soft or made easy, giving reaslism and depth to that violent world that is the mafia.
