Gartenwerker – My New Project About Training, Rehabilitation, and Landscaping

I'm a trainer in landscaping and garden construction for people with disabilities – and this is the place where I tell you about it.

Let me introduce: Gartenwerker.

Who I am and what I do

I'm 58 years old and have been a trainer in landscaping and garden construction for over ten years now. During this time, I train people who are finding their way back into work and everyday life through vocational rehabilitation. These are people starting over after an illness, an accident, or other life events – or starting an apprenticeship with a disability for the very first time. We call them "Gartenbau-Werker" (garden-and-landscape workers) – and their story, without names and without individual cases, is the common thread running through this channel.

Paving work, hedge trimming, machine operation, workplace safety – that's my everyday life. And on top of that comes something that occupies me just as much: how to convey this knowledge in a way that reaches very different people with very different starting points.

What keeps me going in this work after all these years is a particular moment: when someone who started out with little self-confidence becomes someone who believes in themselves again. Witnessing that growth – professionally and personally – is the reason I chose this career path.

What this is about

Gartenwerker is a channel for practice. No theoretical lectures, but real, hands-on knowledge from everyday work in landscaping – combined with my perspective as a trainer in vocational rehabilitation, a role that requires knowledge and patience in equal measure.

Whether you're an apprentice, a trainer, or simply curious what this work really looks like: this is meant to be something that goes beyond small talk after work.

Why privacy matters so much here

One thing is especially important to me in this project: it's about work, methods, and my experience as a trainer – not about individual life stories. Real rehabilitation participants stay out of this. No names, no identifying details.

This matters even more on Hive and Steem, because content published here technically can't be deleted afterward. Anything involving real, identifiable people – should that ever become relevant as a body of professional knowledge – belongs exclusively in my own wiki, which can be corrected at any time. Here on Hive, Steem, and YouTube, it stays at the level of general professional perspective.

The channel – where and when?

Gartenwerker has just gotten started: the YouTube channel (@Gartenwerker) is set up with a profile picture, banner, and channel description – the first video is already in planning. This Hive/Steem account is brand new too, and this article is the very first post.

I'll keep reporting here as things move forward – from the first video to whatever topics come next.

Not a side project

Gartenwerker is my attempt to make visible what this profession actually involves and what hardly anyone from outside gets to see: the practice, the methods, the small and big moments where training genuinely works.

This isn't a side project that fizzles out after a few weeks – I intend to keep this up for the long run.

A call to fellow trainers

One more thing is especially close to my heart, particularly because I want to reach other trainers here: if you're considering getting into extra-company vocational training under § 51 SGB III (Germany's Social Code Book III) – that is, training young people with disabilities or special support needs – I can only recommend it.

There simply aren't enough trainers in this field. Give it a try!

It's more demanding than a regular in-company apprenticeship, no question. But the moments when someone gets back on their feet after setbacks and believes in themselves again make up for that many times over. If you have questions about everyday life in this field, feel free to leave a comment – that's exactly what I'll be writing about here going forward.

Conclusion – stay tuned!

Gartenwerker is still right at the beginning. The channel is set up, this is the first post – the rest will grow from here, piece by piece. If you're in landscaping, training, or rehabilitation yourself, or simply curious about the everyday reality behind this work: feel free to drop by often.

I'm looking forward to every comment – and to whatever grows out of it.
