How a Plant Grows
Plants grow through several important stages. Each stage helps the plant become bigger and stronger.
- Seed Stage
First, a healthy seed is planted in the soil. The seed needs water, air, and a suitable temperature to begin growing.
- Germination Stage
After a few days, the seed starts to germinate. A small root grows downward into the soil, while a tiny shoot begins to grow upward.
- Seedling Stage
The stem grows taller and small green leaves appear. The young plant needs sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil to grow.
- Mature Plant Stage
As the plant grows, it becomes bigger and stronger. Its leaves use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make food through photosynthesis.
- Flower and Fruit Stage
Many mature plants produce flowers. Later, the flowers may develop into fruits containing new seeds.
- New Seed Stage
The new seeds can fall into the soil and grow into new plants. In this way, the life cycle of a plant continues.
