in Shine with Steem • 4 days ago

Hello, dear community! I hope everyone is doing well and making strides in their respective pursuits. Today, I’d like to recount a significant experience from my Tuesday activities, a day marked by responsibility, diligence, patience, teamwork, and above all, gratitude to God. This Tuesday will hold a special place in my life and in our church’s history.

A HISTORIC TUESDAY: LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF OUR CHURCH BUILDING

As the Chair of the Management Committee for the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Use Offot Congregation, this week has been particularly hectic due to our project of establishing a permanent church building. After relocating from our temporary worship site at a primary school, we have been working hard to prepare for the construction of our new church.

Tuesday was the much-anticipated day we designated for laying the foundation stone of our new church.

My day began early, and by 7:30 a.m., I was at the church site to ensure everything was in order before we began. Unfortunately, I was a bit let down to find that the workers had not arrived as early as I had hoped. I waited until around 9:30 a.m. when they finally started to show up.

The foundation excavation had been completed the previous day, so our main tasks for Tuesday were laying the concrete blinding and preparing the reinforcement rods for the building's columns. By 10:00 a.m., we had mixed the concrete and started the blinding work.

Although our iron bender arrived later than expected, he quickly got to work, cutting, arranging, and tying the reinforcement rods effectively, helping us make significant progress.

Additionally, we were looking forward to the arrival of our senior ministers from the Uyo Parish for the foundation-laying ceremony. Since the regular minister was on annual leave, the duties were taken over by Right Reverend Aniefiok Udo, the next senior minister. However, due to unexpected delays, the ministers didn’t arrive until around 3:30 p.m.

Their arrival rejuvenated the site atmosphere. Alongside our resident pastor, Reverend Ubong Ekpenyong , the senior minister, and the site engineer, we reviewed the ongoing work and assessed the progress made. We recognized that the foundation is vital to the integrity of any building; a weak or flawed foundation can threaten the entire structure, so we were committed to doing everything correctly.

With God’s grace, we successfully laid the foundation stone, marking a day of celebration, gratitude, and renewed hope for our congregation. We took group photos to commemorate this historic moment, followed by light refreshments shared among the ministers, workers, and everyone present.

After the ceremony, the ministers left, while the workers continued their tasks. We wrapped up the site around 6:10 p.m. Although the day unfolded differently than planned due to delays, I felt fulfilled with the work achieved.

Reflecting on that day, I see it as more than just a routine workday; it was a moment when faith met action, leadership aligned with responsibility, and a shared vision began to take tangible shape.

As a church, we have taken a significant step towards establishing a permanent place of worship for God’s people. All the glory goes to Almighty God for a peaceful and successful ceremony. May He provide us with the resources, strength, wisdom, and unity necessary to complete this project.

This day will forever be etched in our history as the day we laid the foundation stone for our permanent church building. To God alone be all the glory!
