Reflections on Human Struggles, Cooperation, and Hope for a Better Society

From the paintings such as Scene of Mountain Life (1885), Ballroom Dance Lesson (1865) and Rest Break During Work on the 1881 Exhibition (1887), there is more than just the beauty of the paintings; there is the life experiences, the challenges that people encounter in life, and hope which keeps them alive. From these paintings, there is a message that people should take to reflect on society and its experiences.

The first painting, named Scene of Mountain Life, talks about the challenges that people face in society. I feel that from this painting, people are encouraged to look at people who engage in activities in life, which require courage, perseverance, and determination. In Nigeria, people wake up early in the morning in order to cultivate, move to some far places, or perform some economic activities so as to earn some money. This painting brings back to my mind the struggles that ordinary people undergo in life.

In the second painting, I am impressed by the theme of learning, cooperation, and the importance of human relations. The painting represents to me the need for discipline, practice and understanding in order to attain harmony. Dancing entails coordination of actions and cooperation of individuals. Similarly, it takes cooperation between the citizens and the leaders to create a better society. This painting makes me reflect on the concept of democracy in Nigeria. Even though democracy offers individuals an opportunity to contribute in the election of leaders, issues like corruption, inequality and broken promises have continued to influence our society.

The third painting, Rest Break During Work on the 1881 Exhibition (1887), reflects the theme of hard work, sacrifice and rest. This painting brings to my attention the sacrifices of individuals whose efforts are responsible for making achievements possible. At times, the achievements like a building or an exhibition are admired without acknowledging the labor behind them. This painting reminds me of Nigerians who work tirelessly despite the economic hardships so as to provide better lives for their families.

This is because these paintings inspire me to move away from superficial observation of human undertakings and think about the deeper meaning of such undertakings. They remind me of the struggle and the learning process, as well as the cooperation and persistence that people have to undergo in order to succeed. They also inspire me to think about the kind of nation we should build, where hardworking individuals are respected and citizens are treated equally.

In essence, these paintings inspire one to think about human experiences and the meaning of life. This is because for me, they are a reminder that every individual has a story and every effort counts, no matter how small it may be. In addition, every society has the potential to improve and become better tomorrow.

I really like how you connected these paintings to the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians. The point about people admiring achievements without recognizing the hard work behind them is so true. We all have our own struggles, and sometimes a little cooperation and understanding can make a big difference.

Thank you for sharing these thoughtful reflections! ❤️

Excellent reflection @chiagoziee. I really liked how you interpreted each painting beyond its beauty. Connecting the mountain life scene with the daily struggle of Nigerians, the dance with cooperation and democracy, and the rest break with the sacrifice behind every achievement is very powerful. Your message that every effort counts and every person has a story is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it!

I'm glad you like it amigo.
