We have reached edition 207, and our featured artist this time is Georgios Jakobides:

This distinguished visual artist was born on January 11, 1853, in Chidira, Lesbos, in the Ottoman Empire.

He studied painting and sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts between 1870 and 1876.

In 1877, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Children are a recurring subject in his work.

Beginning in 1904, he served as the director of the Athens School of Fine Arts, a position he held for 25 years.

He was commissioned to design several modern Greek coins, which stands as his greatest legacy.

He passed away on December 13, 1932, at the age of 79, in Athens, Greece.

Below, I present three works by this notable painter: Children's Concert (1884–1890), Grandmother's Favorite (1893), and Cold Shower (1898).
