Metamorphosis utterly transforms an insect, which explains why the experiment leaving 'specific memories' intact is so astonishing. The fact that neural pathways with specific memories can survive such a wholesale reshuffling of cells is an insight into biology. Well done to 10-year-old Jo Nagai for her home demo of this concept.
