When I write in Bulgarian first, I post the original and then state that the English version is a translation. Otherwise no one will be able to tell it is not originally written by AI. Moreover, I see the images there are also generated, so I am still not convinced ;)
I think it is better to use non-AI translators (while they still exist), because they will pass the words of the author better, I've tested AI translation and it is too sophisticated. Sometimes it intentionally changes the meaning of the words. Not to mention the censorship. People rarely use non-native language at that high level and that makes everything sound less real, well, at least to me.
Before The Internet, I was reading two books a week, now it is two per year, unfortunately :) but still, if I recall that book, will let you know :)

I guess we can't help it, as the world is now in the AI era. Even AI detectors are adding to the problem. There was a time on Hive when I wrote a story completely by myself, but the detectors flagged it as AI, and I was judged as an AI writer. On the other hand, my brother wrote something, ran it through three different AI tools to bypass the detectors, and none of them flagged it.
Nowadays, I guess it's hard to find a page with a truly honest book writer. Even when we do find one, it's quite easy to falsely judge them as AI based on one or two minor details.
About translation, @wakeupkitty made a point that even the smallest bit of translator on your device is an artificial intelligence. Try to reason it: if you wanted a non-AI translator, it would have to be a human being that translates, and where the hell do you want us to find that?
Plus, try to think things deeply — you could order your AI to not change your words for you and give you exactly what you typed. If you insist, it will even give back your errors. It's like sending a command to your computer using the enter key. I think what we need to build in this era is AI etiquette and also control. It's just like drugs: you use it too much, it's an abuse. You use too little when much is needed, an abuse. You use it for the wrong sickness, an abuse.
Like we're told in the lab, safety precautions — and in this case, you can't judge a book by its cover until he finally confesses and says so, or he provides you with evidence.
I also have a question: what if I decided to generate an image to this reply, would you say my whole words here are also AI generated? Think of these things so we don't end up being the illiterate.

Actually, we judge books by their covers, this is part of advertisement, to fool the brain and make people buy.
By the way, there are plenty of people still writing themselves, still speaking and writing more than one language and I am one of them.
It depends on the AI tool we use, and the instructions, if whatever we write is labelled as AI generated text.
It might be a good start if we memtion if we use a translator or if pictures are our own, generated, some tool is used like photoshop, have a different source and so on.

Mentioning tools used is efficient and will at least clear most layers of the doubt if not all.
I should try doing that more frequently (though I get tired from retyping that most of the time. Don't know why tho😫)

Honestly, I haven't see any sophisticated translation.
Unlike what you might believe I speak ABN, rarely use modern expressions, no dialect, no street language, which means if I use google to translate it doesn't look like me.

Honestly, I cannot. Few months ago I wrote something in my native tongue and then ran it through Google translator and then asked Gemini to translate. Huge differences. So back then, GT appeared to be running on its own code, not LLM ;) Not sure that is still true presently.
Anyway, I believe it is a lost battle with generative AI, and probably it doesn't matter much, as votes on STEEM-based blockchains are not cast based (mostly) on quality, right? ;)
Today, I wish we have similar conversations in a few months future, instead of how expensive food is and impossibility to travel due to the unaffordable gas prices. Kinda becoming a reality here, with diesel hitting 2 EUR per litter here and national average net salary of about 1100-1200 EUR. Thank you, all the greedy politicians and other shmuks. I really don't understand that global self-destruction in the name of more and more money...
