༻꧂Good Evening Steemians༻꧂

Assalamu Alaikum my dear friends!

I hope you all are well. Welcome to all my friends reading my post. Today I am participating in a writing challenge and in this regard I am sharing a short story with you all. The topic of this challenge is to write a story about an animal, so I have chosen a crow.

I have tried to make the story different and keep you interested till the end while reading. Hope you like this little effort of mine. So let's start the story.

༻꧂The Crow Who Came Back Every Day༻꧂

At the far end of the village was an old house. Next to the house stood a huge tree whose branches were so spread out that even in the afternoon there was cool shade under it. An old woman lived in this house with her grandson Hamid. Hamid was very fond of animals and birds from the beginning. He used to get up in the morning and put grain for sparrows in the yard, sometimes he would give milk to a stray cat and sometimes he would bring home an injured bird while wandering around the village. But among all of them, there was one black crow that attracted Hamid's attention the most. The crow would come and sit at the window of their house almost every day at the same time, look in quietly for a while and then perch on a high branch of the big tree in front. Hamid tried to call him closer several times, but he never came down.

One day Hamid saw a crow carrying something small in its beak. He dropped the thing on the ground by the window and immediately flew to the tree. Hamid curiously picked up the thing. It was an old black button. He ran to his grandmother and placed the button on her hand. When Grandma saw the button. A strange silence suddenly appeared on her face. He said nothing for a long time, then said softly, "This button was from your grandfather's old coat." Hamid was surprised. His grandfather had passed away many years ago. Hamid asked where this button came from, but Dadi only said that the crow must have picked it up from somewhere. Hamid was not satisfied with this answer.

The next day the crow came again. This time it had a small rusty key in its beak. Hamid picked it up and showed it to Grandma. Who immediately went to an old wooden box placed in a corner of the house. Hamid had seen that box many times before. Well Dadi had never opened it. Grandma put the key in the lock and the lock opened. Inside were some old clothes, a few photographs and a small diary. Grandmother picked up the diary and sat with it for some time. Then he told Hamid that it was his grandfather's diary. When Hamid opened the diary, there was a lot written in it about the old stories of the village and the daily life of his grandfather. But there was something in the last few pages that surprised Hamid.

Dada wrote that many years ago an injured crow came to his house. One of his wings was injured and he could not fly. Dada kept him in the courtyard of the house for several days, applied medicine to his wound and fed him. After a few days the crow recovered and one morning suddenly flew away. On the last page of the diary, Dada jokingly wrote, "If you ever miss me, come back." Hamid looked at Dadi after reading this sentence. Grandma's eyes were slightly moist. "We never thought he would actually come back," he said.

After that, Hamid started waiting for this crow every day. He would also have a grain for him, but the crow would never come down and eat it. He would just sit at the window for a while, look inside the house and then sit on the same old tree. This happened for several days. Then one morning the crow came to the window as usual. Well this time there was nothing in its beak. He sat silent for a long time. Hamid also watched him silently. After some time. The crow flew to the tree. Then flew to the sky. After that day he never came again.

Hamid asked Dadi, “Did he really come to remember Dadi?” Grandma smiled, "Maybe. We can't say for sure. Well sometimes there are things in life that we don't have the answers to." Hamid looked at the empty sky for a long time. It occurred to him for the first time that animals might remember things that humans forget over time. That crow was probably not just a bird. It was the last sign of an old promise, which had not lost its way even after so many years.
