RE: Be Your (Nasty) Self | Exploring My Mischievous Side

in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE • 13 hours ago

You’ve made a good start in this competition. The images are spot on too; I’d expected something a bit more devilish, like in the Tom and Jerry cartoons, where Tom the cat often has a devil and an angel on his shoulder to help him make decisions – and we see the same thing in the Walt Disney animation The Emperor’s New Groove with Cronk. I find it particularly hilarious when these two get into an argument. Personally, however, I don’t have a devil or an angel sitting on my shoulder. I’ll just have to make do without. I do find your article loses a bit of its edge as soon as you start talking about norms and values and not wanting to hurt anyone, and so on and so forth. This sounds a bit like the usual nonsense, and it makes me wonder: how much further can you really be yourself? When it comes down to it, you’ll always hurt someone, no matter how careful you are. Perhaps the question is also: how honest are you? Will you lie to spare someone’s feelings, or will you tell the truth? If you don’t tell the truth, then your best friend will be angry too, because you knew it all and kept it to yourself to spare their feelings. Nothing is as complicated as human beings, and nothing is as fickle. I look forward to your next creative contribution.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and interesting comment. I really appreciate the way you looked at my article from a different perspective .

I actually love the idea of the devil and angel arguing on our shoulders . Perhaps I should have given them a little more space in my story you’ve raised an important point about honesty and human relationships . I agree that trying to please everyone can sometimes mean losing a part of ourselves . The truth is, there is no perfect way to deal with every situation . Sometimes honesty hurts, and sometimes silence hurts even more . Perhaps being yourself is not about avoiding every mistake or never hurting anyone, but about having the courage to be honest and accepting that not everyone will agree with you your comment has given me something more to think about for my next contribution . Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts . I hope the next one will be a little more devilish 😄
