I love Bakharkhani. Bakharkhani is so intertwined with the Dhaka tradition that its impact on the economy of a busy and densely populated area like Shukrabad is clearly visible. The daily income and expenditure of a simple craftsman that you have presented in your post gives a perfect picture of the real-life struggle of the city's working people. Although the income of the people of Dhaka is higher than the national average, they have to struggle to meet the skyrocketing prices of daily necessities and the costs of education and medical treatment. In my opinion, such small and medium businesses are mainly keeping the local economy of Dhaka alive. Big infrastructure or mega projects may change the future of the city, but the livelihood of the common people still depends on these small shops.
