The Diary Game: Inspecting My 23 Days Old Cucumber Farm. ||28-08-2026||

Hello Steemit family, I Welcome you all to my another episode of the diary game with yours truly @inyangibom. Today I went to check on my cucumber farm and I’m so excited with what I saw. The cucumbers are 23 days old today, and they are growing beautifully. Farming teaches patience, but when you see results like this, all the stress becomes worth it.

The first two pictures show the full view of the farm. As you can see, the cucumbers are planted in neat rows on raised beds covered with silver polythene mulch. We used mulch for 3 main reasons: to control weeds, to keep moisture in the soil, and to keep the fruits clean when they start coming. The rows are stretching far, and the green color is already giving the farm life.

In the background you can see palm trees. That’s how you know we’re in the tropics here in Nigeria 😄. The weather has been favorable too, some days rain, some days sunshine. That balance is helping the plants push out new leaves quickly.

At 23 days, the plants have already established well. No serious pest attack for now, and the germination rate is over 90%. Seeing such uniformity across the farm makes me happy as a farmer. Look at those leaves, Big, broad, dark green, and very healthy. At this stage, cucumber plants should have 5-7 true leaves, and most of mine are already there. The veins are clear and the leaves are thick, which is a good sign that they are feeding well.

You can also see the tendrils coming out in some of the pictures. Those small curly things are how cucumber plants climb. In the next 1-2 weeks, I’ll start putting up trellis/stakes so they can climb and the fruits won’t touch the ground. Another thing I noticed is the drip irrigation line running beside each row. You can see the black pipe in some of the close-ups. Drip helps us save water and delivers nutrients directly to the root. That’s why the soil around the plant looks moist but not waterlogged.

Cucumber is a 45-55 day crop, so harvest should start in about 3 weeks from now if everything goes well. Farming cucumber has taught me that timing is everything. The first 30 days determine if you’ll have a good harvest. Water, nutrients, and pest control must be on point.

Also, mulch + drip irrigation is a game changer. It reduces labor and keeps the farm clean. I’m grateful to God for how far we’ve come. From tiny seeds to this lush green field in just 23 days. It’s proof that hard work and knowledge pays.
