For this Beautiful Sunday, I decided to head out for a late lunch at a coffeeshop in Toa Payoh. It was quite a warm afternoon, but nothing stops a Singaporean from finding good local food.
在这个美丽的星期天，我决定去大巴窑的一家咖啡店吃一顿迟来的午餐。那是个挺炎热的下午，但没有什么能阻止新加坡人寻找美味的本地美食。
I went to Ee Hoe Eating House at Lorong 7 Toa Payoh and saw this interesting stall called "21 Old Airport Wanton Noodles".
我去了大巴窑7巷的“亿和餐室”，看到一个挺有意思的档口，叫做“旧机场云吞面”。
They claim to serve the original taste of Jalan Batu since 1986. I arrived just around 3 PM to beat the lunch crowd. They also put up a big poster sharing their heritage. It explains how their noodles are cooked to a springy texture, their char siew has a hint of smoky sweetness, and their wantons are silky smooth. It's always nice to read about the history behind our local food.
他们声称自1986年以来就一直保留着Jalan Batu 的原汁原味。我大概在下午3点左右到达，正好避开了午餐人潮。他们还挂了一张大海报分享他们的传承历史。上面解释了他们的面条是如何煮出弹牙的口感，叉烧带有一丝烟熏的微甜，而云吞则是口感滑嫩。阅读我们本地美食背后的历史总是件让人愉悦的事。
Here is a closer look at their menu options. Besides the classic wanton noodles which start from $3.50, they also sell dumpling noodles, chicken feet noodles, and fried wantons. The prices are quite reasonable for this portion size nowadays.

Of course, I had to order their signature wanton mee. The food was with a side bowl of clear soup with wantons and greens. The noodles were tossed in a savory sauce, topped with char siew slices, fresh green vegetables, and some pickled green chilies. It was a simple but very satisfying lunch for a beautiful Sunday.
