My first day learning picture framing and signage creation.

My name is Gbara Bright. I'm a teacher, and also the vice- principal admin of my school. But I decided to engage myself with something new in this long vacation. I registered to learn a skill in frame and signage creation and General branding, because my salary wasn't enough.
So on my first day at work, I left as early as 7am in the morning, I got there by 8am. The environment was already very busy with clients and customers bringing different kind of jobs like printing of banners, flyers, cutting of papers, printing on shirts and caps etc.
I felt very nervous, because everything in the environment was new to me.
When my boss (trainer) resumed work that morning he welcomed me and collected the carton of soft drink and bottle of groundnut he asked me to buy which is one of the requirements for trainees that want to learn a skill. He shared to all his neighbors and they all came one by one to give me a little advice to be humble, patient, stay focused and be ready to learn no matter my status. Although I felt a little embarrassed or should I say shy... After then my boss gave me a brief orientation on the things that'll help me train successfully and also the dos and don'ts.
After the orientation, he lectured me on everything I need to know ( kind of an overview) about frame creation. I learnt about the different sizes which includes 8×10, 10×19, 12×16, 16×20, 16×24( length×width) it's measured mainly in inches in order to get an accurate measurement. Then we also have frameless acrylic(glass)frame and those without glass. The difference is that the acrylic glass frame is more expensive than the one without glass. Some of the tools I was shown was gold rail and edge tape which is used to cover the edges of the frame. Board for putting your printed picture and glass etc.
No practical work was done on the first day, I was tired and hungry after all the lectures but my boss a very good and caring guy bought me maltina and snacks to refresh myself. We closed around 6pm and i took all the frame samples inside and locked the shop. I went home feeling very excited because I have started something new and I believe in the nearest future I'm going to become a master of myself.
Well today was only the beginning, even though I didn't do any practical work, but I learnt a lot from the theory and orientation. I went home tired but very excited that learning a skill takes patience and every great thing starts small. I'm looking forward to the practical aspect and to see how much I can improve as the days go by. Thanks for reading.
