Assalamu Alaikum everyone; I hope you are all doing well. By the grace of Allah, I am also doing well. Today, I am here to participate in a wonderful topic. If I were the mayor of a city in Bangladesh for one week, what steps would I take? I would like to thank @steemitblog for introducing such an excellent topic.

If I were the mayor of a city in Bangladesh for a week..

If I had the opportunity to serve as the mayor of a city, municipality, or upazila in Bangladesh for a week armed with special powers to implement rapid changes my goal would be to make the lives of ordinary people cleaner, more educated, healthier, and more beautiful.

Although one week is a very short time, with the right planning and special authority, it is possible to launch initiatives that yield long-term benefits for the public. Therefore, I would prioritize three key changes.

1. Clean Cities and Villages and Modern Waste Management.

My first initiative would be to ENSURE CLEANLINESS in the area. Everyone is aware of the current state of cleanliness in Bangladesh. To stop the indiscriminate dumping of trash along roadsides, I would install adequate dustbins in every key location. I would arrange for regular waste collection and implement a system for waste segregation and recycling.

I would also initiate programs for the regular cleaning of drains and canals, measures to mitigate waterlogging, and roadside tree-planting drives. Awareness campaigns regarding cleanliness would be conducted in schools, markets, mosques, and densely populated areas. Conscious Members of Parliament (MPs) in Bangladesh are already undertaking similar initiatives.

Who would support thisOrdinary citizens, students, teachers, environmental organizations, business owners, and socially conscious individuals would support this initiative.
Who might oppose itThose accustomed to littering, business owners who illegally dump waste, and individuals who benefit from existing irregularities would likely oppose it.
Estimated costApproximately 100 crore Taka8.12 million USD
2. Quality Education and Digital Learning Opportunities for All.

Next, as the second change, I would work towards improving the quality of the EDUCATION system. The education system in Bangladesh is quite weak. I would take initiatives to ensure adequate teachers, quality classrooms, libraries, computers, and digital learning facilities in government schools especially given that public institutions are currently facing challenges.

I would arrange for free books, educational materials, and necessary support for students from economically disadvantaged families. Simultaneously, I would expand opportunities for technical and skill-based training so that young people could create their own employment rather than simply waiting for jobs. I would emphasize practical, hands-on learning.

Who would support thisStudents, parents, teachers, education experts, the youth, and conscious citizens would stand in favor of this change.
Who might oppose itIndividuals who benefit from irregularities or corruption in the education sector, and those reluctant to change established methods, might oppose it.
Estimated costApproximately 150 crore Taka122 million USD
3. Affordable Healthcare and Modern Medical Facilities.

As a third measure, I would aim to make HEALTHCARE easily accessible to the general public. As you all know, the HEALTHCARE SYSTEM in Bangladesh is currently substandard. I would take steps to make community clinics or healthcare centers in every key area more effective.

I would ensure that ordinary people could access primary care, emergency services, essential medicines, and medical consultations at a low cost. I would strictly monitor the situation to prevent the illegal sale of government-supplied medicines. Mobile medical teams could also be introduced to serve people in remote areas. I would prioritize healthcare services, particularly for children, the elderly and impoverished families.

Who would support thisThe general public, doctors, nurses, health workers, humanitarian organizations and volunteers would support this initiative.
Who might oppose itIndividuals or institutions profiting from irregularities in the healthcare sector, and those who might lose existing privileges due to these changes, might oppose it.
Estimated costApproximately 200 crore Taka166 million
Total Cost and Funding....

Implementing these three changes would initially require approximately 450–500 crore Taka or 366-407 million USD. The actual cost could vary depending on the project's scope, the size of the area and the infrastructure involved.

Yes, in some instances, funds would need to be diverted to these critical sectors by cutting costs from non-essential projects. However, I would never cut funding in areas that compromise essential public services.

Will these changes last beyond the one-week period?

I believe that merely initiating change within a single week is not enough. To ensure sustainability, these changes must be institutionalized through laws, policies, budgetary frameworks and public engagement. However, with the right plan, successful implementation is achievable.

Before my tenure ended, I would have established a system for every project that included designated officials, specific budgets, clear timelines and public accountability. This approach would have earned me the public's trust and cooperation.

A Few Final Word...

A single week in power might not solve every problem facing a country or city. If you look at Bangladesh's history, some governments failed to achieve significant results even over fifteen years; despite some progress, the country carries a per capita debt burden of lakhs of Taka. Yet, with proper leadership, transparency, public participation, and realistic planning, it is possible to lay the foundation for positive change. This requires patience and public support.

I Invite my Steemian friends @wilmer1988, @kiwiscanfly, @inspiracion, @sadaf02, @mahadisalim, @jimiaera02 to Participate in this challenge.

You are very practical in making cleanliness, education and healthcare your first priority. I especially like that instead of just telling the problem, you have also told the work like waste collection, cleaning of drains, technical training and mobile medical teams for remote areas. It is also good to have a budget and a system of responsible people for this to continue after a week. Overall you have explained the topic in a very simple manner and your ideas are connected with the needs of common people.

thanks for your opinion 💓

I really enjoyed reading your ideas, Max. Cleanliness, education and healthcare are such important issues, and you explained your priorities in a very clear way.

I also liked that you thought beyond the one-week period and focused on making the changes sustainable. The part about clear budgets, responsibilities and public accountability really makes sense to me. Great post, and good luck with the challenge!
