🇮🇹

After five years in which this farcical government has done practically nothing but cause damage to the country, and with elections now approaching—and the fear of losing them—the administration has rolled out a budget that, while offering (on paper) bonuses for everyone, simultaneously slashes funding for vital sectors like schools and education.
After all, the money to pay for the weapons being sent to that Ukrainian junkie has to come from somewhere.

In the state school system—which is already in a dire state—nearly 7,000 jobs are being cut: 5,000 teaching positions and 2,000 administrative roles.
All this to save 252 million by 2028.
Pension indexation is also being cut, meaning there will be no cost-of-living adjustments to keep pace with rising prices.
And as for the healthcare system—which is supposedly "working wonderfully" (despite the best efforts of those who work within it)—the budget allocates 1.6 billion for vouchers.
You might say, "Great!"
The problem is that these vouchers must be spent outside the public healthcare system, in the private sector.
The regions had requested significant investment for hospitals; instead, they received nothing but crumbs.

Then there is a whole array of "blanket" bonuses—bonuses that reach only a very limited number of people and involve negligible amounts; after all, a bonus of 100 euros a year solves nothing for anyone.
These are clearly just election-year handouts, designed to make it look as though these people care about the public—when, as the last five years have shown, they couldn't care less about those who truly need help. A state that cuts funding for healthcare and education is not a serious state; it is merely scraping by, unable to see beyond the end of its own nose.
And if they lose the election—as one would hope—it will fall to their successors to untangle the mess.
