Hello Steemit — I’m Jack, a Software Engineer Who Likes Building Useful Things 👋

Hello Steemit!

You can call me Jack. I work as a software engineer.

This is my first proper introduction here, so instead of turning it into a formal résumé, I thought I’d simply tell you a little about what I do, what I’m interested in, and what I hope to share on Steemit.

A Little About Me

I’ve always enjoyed solving practical problems with technology.

In my daily work, I deal with things like web applications, databases, servers, data systems, and IT infrastructure. Some days I’m writing code. Some days I’m troubleshooting a database or a server. And some days I spend far too long trying to understand why something that worked perfectly yesterday suddenly refuses to work today.

I guess that is part of being a software engineer. 😄

What I enjoy most is the moment when a complicated problem finally becomes simple.

That idea also influences the projects I build outside of work.

I Like Building Small and Useful Internet Tools

In my spare time, I experiment with websites and small online products.

I’m especially interested in tool-based websites — websites that do one specific thing and actually help someone solve a problem.

Calculators, identifiers, generators, search tools, checkers, converters... things like that.

My philosophy is pretty simple:

If a small tool can turn a 20-minute task into a 20-second task, it is probably worth building.

Recently, I’ve also been spending a lot of time exploring AI, SEO, search behavior, and independent web products.

AI has made building things much faster, but it has also created another problem: the Internet is becoming full of content that looks and sounds exactly the same.

That makes me increasingly interested in a different question:

How can we use AI to create something genuinely useful instead of simply creating more content?

I suspect I’ll write about that quite a lot here.

Movies Are My Other Obsession 🎬

When I'm away from computers, one of my favorite things to do is watch movies.

I enjoy action movies and comedies, but my favorite genre is probably mystery and thriller.

Especially the kind where everything you thought you understood during the first 90 minutes turns out to be wrong in the last 10 minutes.

Those are the movies I remember.

So don't be surprised if a technical post is occasionally interrupted by me trying to figure out the logic behind a TV series or talking about a movie with a ridiculous plot twist.

I’m Also Learning English

English isn’t my native language.

Chinese is.

Learning English has actually become one of my longer-term personal projects. Reading technical documentation is relatively comfortable for me, but speaking naturally is much harder.

So I’ve been practicing little by little — real conversations, travel situations, shadowing, correcting awkward expressions, and trying to think in English instead of translating everything from Chinese first.

Writing here is another opportunity to practice.

If you ever notice an expression that sounds slightly unusual, there is a reasonable chance that my Chinese brain got there before my English brain did. 😄

Feel free to correct me.

Travel Is Something I Want to Do More Of

I also want to see more of the world.

Japan is currently near the top of my list. I’d love to see Mount Fuji, visit old Buddhist temples, walk around ordinary Japanese neighborhoods, and hopefully experience cherry blossom season one day.

For me, travel isn't only about checking famous places off a list.

I like seeing how people actually live somewhere — their food, transportation, technology, streets, stores, and everyday routines.

Those small differences are often more interesting than the tourist attractions themselves.

Why Steemit?

What attracts me to Steemit is that people here still seem willing to write about what they actually know, build, experience, and think about.

The blockchain part is interesting, of course, but I’m more interested in the people behind the posts.

I don't want to come here only to publish articles and disappear.

I'd like to discover people working on interesting projects, learn from other communities, exchange ideas, and occasionally have a good discussion in the comments.

What Will I Write About?

You’ll probably see a mixture of:

Software engineering and practical IT problems

AI tools and experiments

Building small websites and internet products

SEO and what I learn from running real websites

Interesting tools and open-source projects I discover

Movies and TV shows

English learning

Travel and everyday observations

Random problems that send me down an unnecessarily deep rabbit hole

I prefer sharing things that come from something I actually tried, built, researched, fixed, or experienced.

Sometimes that might be a detailed technical article.

Sometimes it might just be a small discovery that saved me an hour and could save someone else an hour too.

Nice to Meet You

That’s probably enough about me for a first post.

I’m still learning how Steemit and its different communities work, so recommendations are welcome.

If you’re interested in technology, AI, indie websites, movies, or simply building useful things, feel free to say hello.

And if you build something interesting yourself, I’d genuinely like to see it.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to Steemit! Since we share the same taste in thrillers, which ones would you recommend? It doesn't matter if they're 20 or 30 years old, as long as they're good!
