HIS BROTHERS DID NOT BELIEVE IN HIM
WEDNESDAY 04
“For even His brothers did not believe in Him.”
John 7:5 (NKJV)
READ: John 7:1–9
One important thing that you should know if there is a call of God on your life is, you should not expect every person— families, friends, and acquaintances—to agree with the call.
Our text, John 7:5, says even Jesus’ brothers (Matthew 13:55) did not believe in Him (Matthew 12:46–50). If those from Jesus’ household did not believe in Him and His assignment, then, yours should not be strange (Matthew 10:36). Thus, you should go ahead with whatever God has called you to do without minding who believes, and who does not believe, in your assignment or ministry.
Those in your family, or among your friends, who do not believe would later do; when they eventually see the results of what God is doing through your life and ministry. They may mock and tease you today, but they will come and celebrate you tomorrow when they see the greatness of God’s doing through your life and ministry.
Jesus’ brothers who did not believe in Him eventually did. A resurrection appearance of Jesus to James was mentioned by Paul (1 Corinthians 15:7). After the resurrection and ascension,
the brothers are said to have been with the twelve apostles and other believers in Jerusalem (Acts 1:14). James eventually assumed the leadership of the Jerusalem church, this probably
happened because of his constancy in the church whilst Peter and other apostles travelled. In the Jerusalem conference that was called because of Paul’s Gentile mission, James presided
as the spokesman for the Jerusalem church (Acts 15:6–29).
Waiting to receive the approval of everyone before you could do what God has instructed and assigned you to do would make God angry with you. It is only God who will convince those who do not believe in your ministry, and that is done when they begin to see the fruits of God’s doing in your life and ministry.
This also is applicable to those who would not want to follow you, or be identified with your ministry, they will all do when they see results of what God is doing. Yours is to obey, and do the work, and allow God to touch whoever He wants to follow and believe in what you are doing.
Stop striving to convince those who would not believe in what you are assigned to do by God; let God Himself do the convincing.
Peace.
Reflect:
☞ Whose approval are you still waiting for before you do what God has already told you to do?
☞ How do you respond when people close to you do not understand or support what you believe God is doing?
