Mini PC Journal : How to Fix Boot loop after power loss?

in #minipc • 9 days ago

I was reading about a frustrating problem with mini PCs today. The power goes out unexpectedly, electricity comes back, and suddenly the computer keeps restarting. It shows the manufacturer logo, begins loading Windows, and then starts all over again. Sometimes it does not even reach the logo. It is the kind of issue that makes you wonder whether the power cut damaged something inside the machine.

I would begin with the simplest check, the power supply. Unplug the mini PC from the wall, disconnect unnecessary USB devices, and leave it switched off for a minute or two. Then reconnect the original power adapter and try starting it again. If the power adapter or cable has become damaged, replacing it with a compatible manufacturer-approved unit may solve the problem.

If the machine still loops, I would pay attention to where the restart happens. A restart before Windows loads points towards a possible hardware, firmware, or power issue. If the Windows logo appears before the restart, the operating system or a failed update could be involved.

For a Windows machine, the recovery environment may help. If Windows repeatedly fails to start, it can offer recovery options such as Startup Repair. I would try that before considering a complete reinstall, especially if important files are stored on the SSD. A reinstall should be a last resort because it can erase data.

There is also the BIOS to consider. Some mini PCs have an option to restore power automatically after an outage. That setting controls whether the machine starts when electricity returns. It should not normally cause a boot loop, but checking the BIOS can help identify unexpected power behaviour.

I would avoid repeatedly forcing the machine to restart or changing several BIOS settings at once. If the system cannot remain powered on long enough to enter BIOS, or if it keeps restarting even before the operating system loads, professional hardware diagnosis may be necessary.

Today's lesson is that a power cut does not automatically mean the mini PC is ruined. Start with the power supply, isolate connected devices, and identify exactly where startup fails. A careful diagnosis is better than immediately replacing the SSD or reinstalling Windows.
