In October it's somehow become a tradition to post photos of yellow leaves and something typically autumn-related 🍁🍂 But my photos show an evergreen plant called Bougainvillea.

Bougainvillea is an ornamental plant that grows in countries with warm climates . Or.. to be more accurate, in countries with subtropical climates.

The main feature of this plant is its bright bracts, which are often pink, crimson or orange. White and purple bracts are also quite common. These are actually modified leaves that people often mistake for flowers. The real flowers of bougainvillea arevery small, white, and located among these colorful bracts.

Bougainvillea loves sunlight and warmth and tolerates drought very well. Under these conditions, these thorny shrubs can bloom throughout the year.

And by the way, bougainvillea is a climbing shrub with woody stems covered in sharp thorns. This is especially noticeable in the last photo:

This shrub is very often used in warm countries to decorate fences and the walls of buildings. Of course taking care of it can be difficult because of its very thorny stems.
