A day in the life : Day 651
I came across an interesting story today about the growing use of AI in scientific research. More researchers are using AI to search through huge amounts of information, test possibilities and find patterns that would take people much longer to discover manually. I find this side of AI more interesting than the constant race between chatbots. There are plenty of problems in science where having a machine go through millions of possibilities could actually save years.
The rest of my day had a much simpler challenge. I had planned to clean up some old files and ended up finding several folders with almost identical names. I opened a few and realised I had been keeping multiple copies of things that were already finished. It took a while to decide what was still useful.
I deleted quite a bit in the end. There is a strange satisfaction in watching a messy folder become simple again.
The weather was fairly warm today, although the clouds stayed around for most of the afternoon. We still get occasional rain, but it feels like the monsoon is slowly moving toward its final stretch. I had a lighter lunch and made some hot food in the evening. I have been enjoying simple meals more lately.
Another trend I noticed is that AI is increasingly being used as a research assistant rather than a replacement for researchers. That distinction matters. People still need to decide which questions are worth asking and whether the results make sense. AI can help with the heavy information work, but the judgement still comes from somewhere.
I finished the evening with a reasonably clean computer and fewer unnecessary files. I also found one old document that turned out to be useful, so the cleaning exercise was not completely pointless.
Nothing dramatic happened today. I learned something interesting, removed some digital clutter and had a quiet evening.
That is enough for today.
