I have plucked and brought back a papaya that looks freshly ripened.
Watching a papaya grow and gradually change color right before my eyes is a truly delightful experience. When it seemed ready to be harvested, I carefully plucked it from the tree. Holding the fruit in my hands filled me with a unique joy, knowing it came from a tree in our own home.
The papaya isn't fully ripe yet, so I’ve wrapped it in newspaper to speed up the ripening process. I’ve often heard elders say that wrapping raw or semi-ripe fruit in newspaper helps it ripen faster, and today, I am trying out this very home remedy. After wrapping the papaya securely in newspaper, I’ve placed it in a safe spot at room temperature.
Now, I am curious to see how long it takes for the papaya to ripen fully. I feel like checking its color and softness every day. When it starts turning yellow and feels soft to a gentle touch, I know the ripening process has begun. Once fully ripe, it tastes sweet and has a wonderful aroma.
There is a special joy in enjoying fruit grown with one's own hands. While we often eat fruit bought from the market, plucking it from a tree in our own courtyard or garden and watching it ripen at home creates a cherished memory. It involves the experience of hard work, patience, and a connection with nature—all rolled into one.
Now, it is just a matter of waiting a few days. I hope this newspaper-wrapped papaya ripens well soon and tastes delicious. When it is finally ready, the pleasure of slicing and eating it will be truly special. Truly, fruit from one's own tree is more than just fruit; the happiness and sense of belonging attached to it are just as sweet.
