STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD
"Therefore, I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through
the laying on of my hands."
2 Timothy 1:6
It is one thing to receive a gift but another ball game to know how to
stir the gift up. Here in the above passage, Apostle Paul was talking
about the gift that was received by Timothy through the laying on of his
hands—Paul's hands (2 Timothy 1:6).
It is not enough to receive a gift through impartation, the stirring up of
the gift is very important as well. If the gift received is not stirred up it would
still be as if the person has not received any gift.
The gift of God in a believer is stirred through consistent study of God's
Word and prayers. If you can be consistent in studying the Word and
praying, particularly praying in tongues; you would have a deposit of grace or anointing of God on your life (1 Corinthians 14:2; Jude 20).
Anointing is a force, it cannot be seen with the physical eyes, but it is
tangible. The effect of it can be seen. The result or impact of it can be seen. It comes gradually and in measures.
Know that it is not about how aggressive you are in getting it. God does things progressively and systematically.
When a measure of anointing is given to you, God would look or watch you for a while, to know what you do with that measure. Likewise, any other gift or blessing given to you by God. Your faithfulness and diligence in the
assignment determine how you will be lifted; how the anointing
would be increased, and the gift would be made more effective or
sharpened.
In some cases, additional gift that has been latent can be made active in your life which you did not know that you had, if you are adjudged to be faithful. Also, the scope of your work or ministry can be widened.
The truth is, this systematic progression cannot be jumped. Your followership and faithfulness would by and large determine how fast you rise and how far you go in the work you are assigned to do.
Albeit the stirring up of the gift which is the focus of this piece is about your walk with God. The anointing, the effectiveness of the gift, or whatever you will receive in your walk with God is determined by your fellowship or communion with God.
If I would advise anyone, a believer who is desirous of power or anointing or effectiveness of their giftedness, let the person pay more attention to communion or fellowshipping with God than any other thing.
Receiving directions, that is , knowing what to do or what next to do after a particular phase; all would be gotten in the place of communion or fellowship—being intimate with God.
In my early days in the ministry work I thought one had to do some rigorous spiritual work or exercise to be gifted and highly anointed. I realize now that most of those things are not the things that make one effective—anointed or gifted—in doing the work. The primary goal of a believer or a would-be-minister or minister should be how his fellowship or communion with God would be sound.
Whatever you would be in the ministry work, or in your Christian life, all would be through the soundness of your communion with God the Father. Gift given by God is stirred through communion or fellowship with Him. The anointing is increased through communion or fellowship with Him.
Take a step today and build a strong fellowship with God.
Peace.
