Why changing your IP won’t stop platforms from linking your accounts
Many people think a new IP or a VPN is enough to keep multiple accounts separate. It usually isn’t, because platforms look at several signals together:
IP address: a shared IP alone rarely proves anything, since households and offices share one.
Cookies and local storage: these carry session data between visits.
Browser fingerprint: language, timezone, screen size, fonts and other settings add up to a recognizable profile.
Account details: recovery emails, phone numbers and payment info can link accounts directly.
It also helps to know that an IP ban blocks a network, while an account ban sits on the account itself, so switching IP won’t fix the second one.
