Wisdom for meditation: Do not rely on your wealth, or say, 'I have the power.' Ben Sira 5:1
The Master of Wisdom Ben Sira, taught the practical sense of the most excellent science, and the sapiential book of this master is considered within many branches of Christianity as a canonical book. This book is a very necessary text for all God-fearing men who wish to enter the true spiritual path. Like all wise men, Ben Sira condemned foolishness and warned of the danger of leading a life full of sins, that is, leading a life driven by fleeting desires and passions such as envy, anger, and fear.
And Ben Sira was clear about one thing: only wisdom can truly save man, and respond to his deepest spiritual needs, because in its knowledge through the grace of God, the Gnosis, lies access to all the mysteries of the universe, the knowledge about life and death, the afterlife, and the future, among other things. This is why Ben Sira began, his spiritual book, declaring the origin of wisdom with these words: "All wisdom is from the Lord and remains with him forever" Ben Sira 1:1.
But Ben Sira did not limit himself to theoretical explanations about the origin of wisdom; he also taught that it is the origin of all goods for man, both material and spiritual. This is why Ben Sira taught: "Those who hold her fast will attain glory, and they shall abide in the blessing of the Lord" Ben Sira 4:13.
And then he warned about something else: the true evils in man originate in his forgetfulness or ignorance, because that is how men are led astray by the love of riches, which are so deceptive; that is why he taught with wisdom: "Do not rely on your wealth, or say, 'I have the power.' Ben Sira 5:1. Those who rely on riches and power ultimately build on shaky foundations, because with the struggle of men for this scarce commodity, one never knows where an unforeseen destructive event might arise. The meditation on these truths is extremely important to achieve true happiness. True human intelligence, then, consists in seeking wisdom as the most valuable thing and putting it into practice consistently, because that is how one lives with common sense.
