So I am participating in the season 35 of the engagement challenge with some questions initiated by our friend @suboohi.

I love the simplicity of her questions and how it reminded me of memories from back then...

Topic: What one small habit your mother taught you in childhood that you still follow?

On habit my mom taught me while growing up that I still practice today is doing house chores, as a girl child. It might sound so ordinary, but looking back, I realise it was one of the most valuable things gained from her.

Growing up, my mother never allowed us to treat housework as something meant for one person. We had responsibilities around the house and everyone is expected to contribute in one way or another. Be it seeping, washing, fetching water, cleaning the surrounding, or helping with other activities,,, there was always somthing to do!

As children, there were times we’d thought that playing was more interesting and valuable than doing chores. Sometimes I would prefer to sit down in the living room, cross my legs as I watch the TV, than pick up a broom or wash pile of dirty plates.

But my mother made me understood that keeping the home clean was part of our discussion. At that time, I didn’t fully understand why she was so particular about it, but I knew what certain things had to be done before one could relax.

As I grew older, I began to see the importance of that training. I realised that doing house chores was more that cleaning, it was discipline, responsibility, independence and consideration for other people.

Today, even when I am busy, I find it difficult to feel relaxed in an untidy environment. I naturally want to clean up, arrange things and make my environment more presentable. That’s why my friend would always call me a “workaholic.” It has become my lifestyle that I don’t have to be reminded before doing them.

Yes, this simple actions has taught me not to look down on domestic responsibilities. No matter how busy, successful or wealthy a person becomes, knowing how to take care of their environment is a plus (+).

If I have the opportunity to raise children, I would teach them these actions and it’s important. I want them to understand that helping around the house is not punishment. It is a simple way to learn how to care for themselves and others too.

Sometimes, the lessons our parents teach us may seem small, while we are growing up, but their value becomes clearer as we mature. I may not remember all the instructions my mother gave to me as a child, but this particular habit has stayed with me and I am grateful for that.

Some of the best lessons in life are taught through everyday activities, and doing house chores and doing them well is one lesson I will continue to be grateful to my mother!

The lessons we tried to run away from as children end up becoming the ones we are most grateful for now. It shaped how you carry yourself, how you treat your space, and how you show up for people around you. That's the real beauty of it, it was never just about the house, it was about the person you were becoming without even knowing it.

Yes, it was all about the person I was becoming without even noticing it. I was flogged, corrected and even in my anger, I do all of those things, I guess that was the time I was been shaped into a better version of me.

And yes, we usually face those things we tried running away from at a younger age. I didn’t know a time would come when I would live all by myself, but today, I am entirely grateful to my mother who inculcated all those singular activities in me.

Thank you for stopping by...

Qué bueno que su mamá le enseñó a valorar los oficios del hogar, porque eso habla muy bien de la persona.
Me hubiese gustado ver fotografías de su propiedad para sentirla más hogareñas.
Le deseo el mejor de los éxitos.
Muchas Bendiciones.. 🙏🏻

I appreciate you dear friend!

Yes, my mom taught me a great deal of house chores. Their are so many activities involved when “house chores” is been mentioned. I didn’t prepare a photograph of any chores to participate in this challenge, but I know I have shared such photos and videos here about my participating in my house chores.

Maybe some other time, I will write about it and this time, with my photographs.

Hello @ninapenda,

Welcome to Season 35 Week 1 and thank you for joining my challenge.

Your post is very nice and real. I like your story about house chores. It's true, when we are child we think chores are boring and playing is better, but later we understand how important it is. Your mother taught you a very good habit.

This one small habit actually gave you many things - discipline, responsibility and independence as you said. I agree with you 100%. And yes, it's true that we cannot relax in a dirty room after this training, I am also like that.

Thank you!

I am just a girl who love almost everything my mom taught me. The house chores wasn’t tasky as continued doing it all the time, rather it shaped me, built me, organized me into the woman I am today.

Children stage would always tell us something different from what our parents tells us,,, but until we become adults, we won’t understand those things. I believe that.my children will also follow this step not minding there gender.

I appreciate your grading and feedback!

Hi, friend. Congratulations on that good habit your mom taught you, because these days, a lot of young people don't do that.

When I was little, I didn't do much because I was so young, but as time went on, I did start helping out around the house—like taking care of my own things first, such as cleaning my room and doing my laundry—and I also helped with the household chores.

Well, it was nice to know that you were able to grab these things fast as you grew. Most times, it is good to teach children from their early stage so that they can grow with it. Most children are not fast learners and so it requires enough time for them to adapt.

You actually started from the right spot, cleaning your room and doing your laundry. Thank you for coming around!
