What if I told you that by controlling your pulse, you can not only become absolutely healthy and 100% invulnerable, but also rise above your "normal" consciousness, above your "critical factor," above your ego.
If you take the time to monitor your pulse, and I mean constantly, you'll discover that sometimes the heart rate monitor shows rather strange and inexplicable readings that don't fit into your previous understanding of your pulse. That's what happened to me.
People usually measure their pulse either casually, for example, when they need to measure their blood pressure, or they observe it briefly, for example, during aerobic exercise on a treadmill. Even now, after reading these lines, they might check their pulse, and usually, the reading is acceptable. I assure you, this is a profound mistake; pulse monitoring should be done consistently for at least several days, which requires a simple laser heart rate monitor on a smartwatch. Doesn't it seem a little strange that people pay so little attention to their pulse, even though it's the most important feedback on the condition of their heart, and indeed their overall health?
I'll tell you how it happened for me, and why I began a meticulous independent study of my pulse fluctuations. Today, with an academic background and the help of AI, you can understand any scientific question, even if it's not in your primary specialty. Today, the formula "How dare you? I'm a doctor, I graduated from medical school, I know better" no longer applies. The world has begun to shift from vertical concepts to horizontal ones.
I knew that when playing sports and during significant physical activity, a person should monitor their heart rate to avoid harming their heart. So, I bought a watch with a laser heart rate monitor and monitored it only during such activities. I already knew that I probably had a high heart rate; sometimes, during long walks with a load, my heart rate would rise to 160. Therefore, I considered a heart rate of 120 during such walks to be normal.
I do regular morning exercises, and since exercising in the morning can be quite difficult, I was wondering if I was over straining my heart. Now that I have a heart rate monitor on my wrist at all times, I reassured myself that I was not over straining it. No matter how difficult it was to exercise in the morning, my heart rate never rose above 110. I realized that the only problem was the muscle pain. I also try to exercise regularly. I have an elliptical trainer in my room, so I don't need to go to the gym; a little willpower is enough. I was also pleasantly surprised; my heart rate remained within normal limits, which are now easily checked and calculated using the same AI.
I calmed down about my heart rate, thinking it was basically normal, like everyone else's, if not for one incident!

Literally a few days later, my wife and I had to climb up to the ninth floor apartment again without an elevator. I followed her again. Remembering the first incident, on the ninth floor landing, I glanced at my heart rate monitor again and was stunned! It showed 78! Maybe something was wrong with me, I worried. We entered the apartment, and I watched my pulse for a few more minutes until it rose again, a reading above 100. I calmed down, but was determined to investigate this issue, especially since I already knew that I had a whole council of professors from all over the world at my disposal—artificial intelligence.
In just a month, I accumulated a whole bunch of strange heart rate readings, which I continued to study and discuss, mostly with Gemini. I'll only list the strangest ones.
First, I realized that my long-held belief that heart rate is related to physical activity was shattered. While usually pedaling 5-7 kilometers on an elliptical trainer (for those who don't know, this is pedaling with your feet and using ski poles with your hands, standing), I often got the following results after each kilometer: 76-82-91-81-89! And conversely, and as I sat on the couch, quietly thinking about something, the trigger on my heart rate monitor went off, telling me that my heart rate had exceeded 100 beats per minute. Now my watch was set to notify me if my heart rate was above 100 and below 60.
Strange incidents would also occur, like while carefreely scrolling through YouTube, when, out of the blue, the sensor would go off, informing me that my heart rate had dropped below the lower limit and was now at 53! Sometimes the opposite would happen: seemingly the same circumstances, seemingly nothing out of the ordinary, but the heart rate monitor would signal that my heart rate had jumped above 100 and was now at 125! But the most astonishing thing was that I couldn't detect any difference based on my own sensations; literally, if I hadn't been constantly monitoring, I wouldn't have even known about it.
I realized I'd stumbled upon a very serious, mysterious phenomenon, and with the help of my friend Gemini, I delved into the study of applied neurobiology and neurophysiology—at a popular science level, of course, but quite sufficient. I also read books constantly. It's an old habit, dating back to childhood, before the internet. I read only esoteric and popular science works, many of which are recognized bestsellers.
Here I should digress and confess that esotericism has been my hobby for many years. Let me clarify right away: to begin with, my passion had a real physical basis: I experienced a physical transcendental experience. That is, having a strong background in physics and mathematics, I once conducted an experiment proposed in a book by a student of the famous mystic Thomas Troward, and I became convinced from personal experience that our reality is not at all what we are accustomed to thinking about it. There I also learned a description of Troward's main secret, which he explained as follows: "You need to find a switch in a dark room that is located in the most unusual place, has the most unexpected shape, and turns on in the most incredible way." Today, many years later, I finally found that switch.
So, constantly observing incomprehensible, I would even say illogical, readings from my heart rate monitor, Gemini and I delved into neurobiology and neurophysiology. It turns out that science has long been interested in various phenomena of our bodies, and especially the brain. Therefore, the next aspect I had to study and observe practically were the various wave patterns emitted by my brain under various conditions and circumstances.
Here I should add a disclaimer: the knowledge in the public domain is generally of little value, i.e., applied and popular science. However, if even these disparate pieces of the puzzle are put together into a general picture and practical experiments are added to them, a fairly clear picture can be obtained.
My primary "biofeedback," or simply a monitoring device for my body's state, has now become the heart rate on my smartwatch. Having some experience with various meditations and meditative states—or, to put it simply, the ability to disidentify from my thinking and observe its strength, quality, and characteristics—I quickly, again with the scientific support of Gemini, compiled a chart of heart rate versus brainwave activity.
Main ranges:
Theta waves: frequency 4–7 Hz. Science believes that at this frequency, our intuition, deep memory, and special, pleasant dreams are activated. At this brainwave frequency, the heart rate drops below 70, and if the process continues, even below 60. You might now think that meditation and complete relaxation are necessary for such a state. It turns out – no! If you set your smartwatch to alert you when your heart rate rises above 100 and drops below 60, you'll find that sometimes your heart rate drops below 60 while watching an unremarkable YouTube video. Sometimes this can happen simply from some unremarkable thought.
I'd like to clarify right away that, thanks to my esoteric experience, I have another piece of feedback that confirms: "Yes, this thinking was definitely in Theta waves." I look at my watch and see a heart rate in the 60+/- range.
So, with a high degree of certainty, I can say that in Theta waves, your heart rate cannot exceed 65 beats per minute.
The next range is Alpha waves with a frequency of 8-12 Hz. Science says it's calm attention. From my experiments, I can confirm that with this type of thinking, your heart rate should be between 65 and 75 beats per minute. Again, my special esoteric feedback mentioned above should not work.

Let's clarify right away that this can be considered a physical trigger point for the "critical factor"—a term from the definition of hypnosis, as a reminder.
The "critical factor" is a real physical phenomenon, which is precisely the aforementioned switch of the mystic Thomas Troward, which he described to his only student, Genevieve Berrend.
Using this feedback—the "Troward switch"—it's quite easy to navigate the wave ranges of your thinking. So, if I notice that the "switch" has been triggered, I can confidently say that my heart rate is now above 80, which is constantly confirmed by the heart rate monitor on my watch.
The "Troward switch" is a very subtle thing; observing it requires practice and the acquisition of a certain skill. In practice, under normal circumstances, it's much easier to monitor your heart rate and, if it's elevated, to normalize it using specific physical and mental techniques.
The most common Beta brain wave is a frequency between 13 and 30 Hz. Your heart rate will be consistently above 80, and often above 100. This is the notorious "internal dialogue," a term coined by Carlos Castaneda, although "internal monologue" would be more accurate, as all the roles are voiced by a single "subject." Science calls this pernicious phenomenon "rumination" or "mental rumination."
The range is quite broad, and only the upper part can be considered extremely negative—a frequency above 20 Hz with a heart rate above 90 beats per minute.
This, my dears, is "chronic stress," which most people experience most of their time. Because of this "chronic stress," their parasympathetic nervous system is practically never functioning, making cardiovascular disease the leading cause of death worldwide.
For your vagus nerve to activate and begin improving your health, you need to intentionally maintain your pulse at 70+/- beats per minute periodically throughout the day. This is the boundary between Alpha and Theta brainwaves, which science believes will have a very positive impact on your health during the day.
Gamma waves, frequency 30-100 Hz. Science calls this the integration of consciousness. I have no experimental confirmation of the pulse's significance, although I have experienced this state and know what it is. To record your pulse in this state, special conditions and circumstances are necessary, which are very difficult to achieve alone, even with the support of Gemini, and generally unnecessary. If you have successfully entered this state, your current pulse is completely unimportant.
In conclusion of this short article, I'd like to dwell in more detail on two states of wave activity: when your heart rate is 70+/- and your brain is somewhere between Theta and Alpha, and the rumination mode, or "internal dialogue," when your heart rate is above 90, often 120 or higher. What's amazing is that unless you're observing it, you won't even be aware of it.
Theta-Alpha mode, when you begin to observe your thinking while simultaneously monitoring your heart rate, you realize that this is a very pleasant and beneficial state. When you begin to practice and intentionally create this state, the simplest sign is that you immediately remember something important you almost forgot to do. For example, you were supposed to send an important email today, but you completely forgot about it. Perhaps you were supposed to make an appointment or check something today, but you completely forgot about it. The Theta-Alpha state will gently remind you of everything. This state of mind also brings forth the most correct and beneficial ideas and solutions. Having been in this state, you will draw the most accurate conclusions and assessments of your current conditions and circumstances. And so on and so forth.
This can't be said about Beta thinking, which science calls a transition from the DMN, the brain's default system, to rumination—an endless replay of an internal monologue that is completely meaningless and useless. But the most dangerous aspect of rumination is the stress it creates, with colossal energy loss and damage to the body.
If you're in a heightened stress zone, no medication will help, and any illness will get progressively worse.
Controlling your thinking and, consequently, your heart rate is both necessary and possible. To exercise this control most effectively and without medical intervention, you need to acquire knowledge of the "Troward Switch" and then the skill to use it.
Why do you need this? Well, at least so you can sit on the couch relaxing, not with a heart rate of 90-120 and not even realize it, but with a heart rate of 60-70, so your parasympathetic nervous system can restore your body while you're doing nothing.
By the way, this doesn't just apply to the couch: you can drive a car with a heart rate of 120 and then forget how you drove the last four blocks, or you can drive with a heart rate of 70-80 and be confident in every meter.
