Spider-Man: Brand New Day — Peter Parker Gets a Fresh Start

There is something strangely exciting about seeing Spider-Man start over.

After everything Peter Parker has been through, Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes the character into a very different chapter. This time, Peter is not simply dealing with another villain or another disaster in New York. He is dealing with the consequences of being forgotten.

The new movie stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The cast also includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

A Spider-Man who has lost almost everything

What makes this chapter interesting is Peter's situation.

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world no longer remembers Peter Parker. He still remembers everyone else, though, which leaves him carrying memories that nobody around him shares.

In Brand New Day, Peter is now fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man. According to Sony's official synopsis, the pressure of watching his old friends move on without him begins to cause a change in Peter that he may not be able to control.

And honestly, that sounds like a very Spider-Man story.

Peter has always been about responsibility, but responsibility can also come with loneliness. This time, he appears to be discovering just how much being Spider-Man can cost him personally.

A new threat

Of course, Peter Parker can't have a quiet life for very long.

The film introduces a new threat to New York, with Sony describing the villain as someone who cannot even be seen. At the same time, Peter is experiencing a transformation of his own. That creates an interesting question: can Peter control what is happening to him before it becomes more dangerous than the enemy he is fighting?

That mystery is probably one of the biggest reasons fans have been talking about the movie.

Tom Holland's next chapter

Brand New Day is also another step forward for Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man.

Rather than simply repeating the formula of the previous movies, this story appears to be focusing more heavily on Peter as a young man who has been forced to grow up and live with the consequences of his choices.

The movie was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and is based on the Marvel comic-book character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Why the title fits

The title Brand New Day feels pretty appropriate.

Peter's old life is gone. His friends don't remember him. He has to build a new life while continuing to protect a city that doesn't know the person underneath the mask.

But that is also what has always made Spider-Man interesting.

Behind the superhero costume is someone trying to figure life out, make the right choices and keep going even when things don't go according to plan.

And maybe that's what this new movie is really about: not getting the life you wanted, but finding a way to move forward anyway.
