Why I chose this recipe :

Back in my childhood, for some reason, the mere sight of Hilsa fish cooked with taro made me lose my appetite. 😅 Looking at the taro, I used to wonder how on earth it could possibly go well with Hilsa! One afternoon, Hilsa with taro was cooked at home. While everyone else was enjoying the meal, I finally decided to take a little rice and mix it with the curry. I was amazed after the very first bite—I never imagined it would taste so good! 🐟🌿From then on, I couldn't resist having Hilsa with taro whenever I saw it. I still remember that first bite from my childhood. That is how certain foods gradually become favorites—and with them, lovely little memories remain intertwined. ❤️

Then one day I learned this recipe from my mother.Although it's not as amazing as her, it's still good.

  • Serving Suggestions 🍽️ :

  • Serve hot with steamed white rice.

  • Add fresh green chilies for extra flavor.

  • A few lemon wedges make a refreshing side.

  • Best enjoyed warm as a traditional Bengali-style meal. 🐟🌿🍚

Final Thoughts 🌿🐟 :
Taro with hilsha is more than just a traditional Bengali fish curry—it is a comforting taste of home and childhood memories. The rich, delicate flavor of hilsa pairs beautifully with the soft, earthy texture of taro, creating a simple yet satisfying combination.
Served with a plate of steaming rice, fresh green chilies, this dish makes a wholesome and comforting Bengali meal. What makes it even more special is its homestyle character—simple ingredients, familiar flavors, and the kind of taste that can bring back memories with every bite.

I invite @Walictd, @dasudi and @lirvic to participate in this contest.

Delicious and comforting! I really enjoyed reading the story behind it, especially how you disliked taro with hilsa as a child but later discovered how delicious the combination actually was. Sometimes our childhood food memories change completely when we finally give a dish a chance.Just like you, I didn’t like bitter gourd at all when I was a child, and I wouldn’t even eat it. But as I grew older, I gave it a try and realized that it actually isn’t as bad as I thought it's quite delicious when you made bitter gourd with chicken.
I also love that you learned this recipe from your mother. Traditional recipes passed down from mothers always have a special feeling because they carry not only flavors but also beautiful family memories. The step-by-step preparation was easy to follow, and serving it with hot steamed rice and green chilies sounds absolutely perfect.

I don’t usually eat fish because I’m not a big fan of it, but the way you prepared this fish is truly admirable. You presented it in such a beautiful way, and I’m sure it must taste delicious as well. I will definitely try it. Your presentation is also very beautiful and makes the dish look even more tempting.
