RE: The Smell of Burnt Onions Before the Story
The sharpness of that burnt onion smell immediately brings to mind how scents can bypass rational thought and land straight in emotional memory. I've noticed how the smell of rain on hot pavement can do the same, pulling me back to childhood summers without any conscious effort. What sensory experience in your life has the power to transport you like that without warning?
The rain on hot pavement detail caught me. For me, it's the smell of gasoline from a lawnmower that does the trick. It takes me straight to my grandfather's backyard, pushing that old machine while he watched from the porch. That smell has a story written in it, doesn't it?
