Mochi was a very small orange kitten with a very big plan.
Every night, the human fell asleep at exactly 10:00 PM, and every morning, the alarm clock rang at exactly 7:00 AM. And every morning, breakfast was late. Mochi had checked. Breakfast was always, always late.
"Nobody is sleeping through MY breakfast," Mochi whispered, "and nobody is hiding time from me."
One night, the kitten noticed something strange. The human was fiddling with the big clock on the wall, muttering, "Ugh, the clocks go back tonight... extra hour of sleep!"
Mochi's eyes became two giant black circles.
An EXTRA hour? Where did it come from? Who was keeping it? And why wasn't it being used for snacks?
So at 1:59 AM, Mochi climbed onto the shelf, squeezed behind the clock, and waited. Tick... tick... tick...
At 2:00 AM, the clock hand jumped backwards, and a tiny golden hour fell out like a dropped coin.
"MINE," said Mochi, and pounced.
The hour wriggled. It was warm, glowing, and tasted faintly of tuna. Mochi carried it carefully to the kitchen and did what any wise kitten would do. Mochi pushed the food bowl across the floor, sat in front of the human's bedroom door, and meowed in a tiny voice:
"It is breakfast o'clock."
The human woke up, looked at the clock, and screamed. "It's 1:30 AM?! Again?!"
"Yes," said Mochi proudly. "I stole you a second one. You're welcome."
The human stared. The kitten stared. Then the human laughed so hard that the neighbors knocked on the wall.
And that, dear readers, is why on the night the clocks go back, your cat looks at you at 2 AM as if you owe them something.
They are not hungry. They are collecting their hour.
What would YOU do with a stolen hour? Tell me in the comments, and if Mochi made you smile, an upvote would make this kitten very happy! 🧡
