Magic wampum purple seashell necklace
A man was very poor and he lived by the sea. One time he was walking by the beach and he saw a big purple seashell. He saw purple stripes on seashells before, but this one was different. He was so poor he could not catch enough fish or grow enough fruits from his tree. He threw a rock in frustration and the rock landed on the sand so when he picked it up he saw an even bigger rock and he decided that he wanted to make a spearhead with it. He made a box and a plate and spoons with carving those seashells. Then he fell in love with a woman; a very poor woman because he felt like he understood her pain and he wanted to do something that would change her situation so she doesn't struggle. This woman was kind to him and told him that poverty does not define him as a person. He made a necklace for her but she walked away and he was never able to give it to her. He kept the wampum shards that he carved for the necklace hidden in a box.
Time flew fast and sometimes it seemed like time barely moves. For six years he continued improving his house and things he had. He built a new firepit and he painted a ring at the bottom of his trees so they would be protected from insects. One time he was cleaning and organizing and he saw the chest where he put the wampum shards. It brought him pain to see the chest and old memories came back. He thought "let me just open the chest to see the necklace pieces again and maybe I will remember that beautiful kind woman". When he opened the chest he saw to his horror and surprise that the wampum shards had holes and dimples from time damage. His face looked very sad and he thought " How could I be so foolish. I should have known that time would eat away at the precious shells. If only I had thought to protect them from the moisture from the ocean and sea air that had been ruining them. If only I put them in a dry cool place."
But he understood that this would be almost impossible because the moisture and humidity from the ocean and hurricanes was present on the beach all the time.
He now was busy thinking why he spent so much time polishing the shells if they don't last. Regret was pulling his heart and soul deeper down.
One time he was walking by the beach and he got frustrated again. He has trying to make a hole in the sand to put a wooden pike in it, which would be one of the sticks holding his new tent to cover him from the sun when he was fishing or sleeping on the beach. He then felt that something hard was blocking the bottom and when he moved the wooden pike out of the way, he saw that a sharp and hard triangle was blocking it. He picked it up and immediately cut his hand. He grew frustrated, but then he thought " I can use it to cut wampum shells faster and indeed the shark tooth cut wampum much faster. It was like cutting bread; much easier.
If he did not have the misfortune of being poor he would not have thought much of the shells and he would not learn how to cut them. He would just ignore them. If he did not have the misfortune of taking so long to polish and cut the sea shells and spending 6 years to cut them only to see the necklace defaced with time, he would not learn how valuable his time and a proper plan was. He became more calculating and strategic, planning his time very carefully. Now he thought of a better plan that was going to save him time. He found new wampum shells and he carved them with the shark tooth. He put the shards in a dry place and he covered them with a protective coating he created by grinding stone into powder and mixing it with wax from a tropical tree. He went to the marketplace to sell his new wampum plates, spoons and boxes, but the people laughed when they heard how he made the protective coating.
The woman he fell in love with told them to stop laughing. She said "Come to see me in the evening and I will tell you how to make protective coating to keep the wampum surface shiny and protected from time and moisture damage. So when the sun began to set they met on the beach and she told him how to make a protective coating. To thank her he gave her the new pieces of the necklace. She said "Why don't you give me the old pieces instead? They are more valuable because you put a lot of time into making them and I love you for being so hardworking because you don't give up on what you believe is right".
Hi, one suggestion: you should add the image credit, even if it was created with artificial intelligence, since intellectual property is sacred here.
I respect that. I removed the image for now, but I am planning to add an image once I can draw or create the picture to add on to this story. Thank you for pointing that out. I gave you an upvote for your suggestion, because I 100% agree with you. There is too much computer generated imagery and it is not fair to people who take their time to create their own artwork.
Hi, it's not that they're not allowed, it's just that the source must be mentioned, whether it's a stock photo or one generated with AI.
Of course, if you have a talent for illustration, that's even more appreciated here. In fact, there's a contest called Inktober that's for users to showcase their original drawings.
Kind regards !
