Gold EA Pulse: 6 Days on a Demo Account, Honest Results (MT4 and MT5)
Hi Steemit friends,
I've been running Gold EA Pulse, the gold (XAUUSD) Expert Advisor I built, on a demo account, and I want to share the first six days of results. As always, I'll show the good parts and the parts that need context.
The numbers (MT4 demo, 6 days)
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Starting balance | $200.00 |
| Current balance | $246.47 |
| Closed profit | +$46.47 |
| Trade win rate | 100% (no losing closed trades) |
| Trades per day | ~8 |
| Pips | 493.9 |
| Symbol | XAUUSD only |
Every closed trade so far has been a winner. That sounds great, but it needs some honesty around it.
What these numbers don't tell you
1. Most wins are small.
The average win is about $0.99. One trade made roughly $27, which is more than half of the total profit. Without that one trade, the week would look much quieter.
2. Six days is a very small sample.
The tracking site also shows a "monthly return" of +140.5%. I'm not quoting that as a real number. It's a projection from six days, and gold can easily give a losing week that wipes out a good start.
3. A 100% win rate won't last.
Any EA will take losses eventually. What matters is how big those losses are compared to the wins, and that is what I'm watching most closely as this account keeps running.
4. This is a demo account.
Live trading adds slippage, wider spreads during news, and execution delays that a demo doesn't fully show.
A closer look at one day (MT5)
On 28 October I also tracked a single day on the MT5 version, at the smallest size (0.01 lots):
- 7 trades, both buys and sells, all closed in profit
- +$3.56 net after costs (+$3.75 gross)
- Peak drawdown: 1.66%
- Stops were moved past the entry price to lock in gains early
Small and steady, which is what I designed it for.
MT4 and MT5
The six-day results above come from the MT4 version. The MT5 version runs the same strategy, so you can use whichever platform your broker supports.
Lots of settings to make it your own
I didn't want a black box, so Gold EA Pulse lets you control how it trades:
- Lot size: start small while you test
- Trading hours and days: only trade the sessions you choose
- News filter: stay out during high-impact news
- Drawdown limits: stop trading for the day once a loss limit is reached
- Max open positions: control how much is in the market at once
My advice before you use any EA
- Backtest it on your broker's data.
- Run it on a demo account for at least a few weeks.
- Go live with the smallest lot size you can.
- Never risk money you can't afford to lose.
I'll keep posting updates from this account, including losing days when they come. That's the only way results like these mean anything.
