Upcoming UFC 330 is a weak card

After the last 2 UFC events being such amazing experiences aside of course from the horrible failure of the main event with Conor McGregor, we were going to face a lull in the action like we do nearly every single year for UFC this time of year.

August just generally speaking is a month where apparently the entire sport world just kind of gives up on events or even entire sports. This is particularly true in USA where the only sports being played are WNBA and baseball. Both of those sports are popular in their own right, but don't really pull me personally is the way that NBA, NHL, and college football / NFL do. Obviously baseball is popular but every season people phase out during this part of the year because the season is so damn long.

This may be part of UFC's overall strategy but the big events for UFC that are kind of weak tend to fall on this time of year as well.

The fact that there are 2 title fights taking place is an attempt to make up for the lackluster fighters taking part but honestly, I think that most casual fans and even some dedicated ones simply forgot that Mackenzie Dern even WAS one of the women's champions.

Islam Makachev defending against Ian Garry sounds like fun because Garry is one of the Irish fighters that UFC loves to push so much but if this goes to the ground early, as it always can do with Makachev, this could be one serious snooze-fest of a fight. The fact that we still have a week to go and the Vegas odds are already -370 for Makachev suggests that the experts think that precisely that is going to happen.

A win is a win, I get that but like most people I find a ground struggle for BJJ submission victories to be absolutely painful to watch and for the most part I have a 2nd screen with the audio off when that happens because I don't like fights like that.

As we go further down the card things don't get better unfortunately.

you dont get to - or + 500 on betting lines unless the match is seriously uneven to the point of one person in it having virtually no chance of victory. Edson Barboza was a contender in his prime but with 14 losses and at 40 years of age, that time is not now. I admire his physique at that age but he is going to get torn apart. Well maybe that will at least be entertaining.

Going down to the early prelims I didn't recognize any of the names other than Neil Magny and honestly, that guy never really had what it took to be a main-carder and I don't think he really ever has been. Maybe towards the top of a Fight Night in the past.

They can't all be bangers I guess and because UFC has so many events a year, something like 3 or 4 a month, it gets difficult to make these numbered events something that people actually want to watch. You can rest assured that the prices to go and see the event will still be sky high in Philadelphia though and I wonder about the mindset of people that are willing to pay so much for something that most of the time, isn't even that entertaining anymore.

I likely wont even bother to watch this one even though I do have access to a Paramount+ account. You?
