Circle Ends USDC on Noble — Injective Becomes the Official IBC Home

in #usdc11 days ago

Circle has announced it is discontinuing support for USDC and CCTP V1 on Noble. Noble will not receive CCTP V2. All USDC on Noble remains redeemable 1:1, but holders and apps need a plan before the pause.

This is the end of Noble’s role as the official USDC issuance hub for Cosmos. The IBC successor now taking that role is native USDC on Injective.

What Circle is doing

Circle is moving its cross-chain stack to CCTP V2 (faster finality, stronger security). Noble stays on legacy CCTP V1 and is being wound down instead of upgraded.

Timeline

  • Sep 10, 2026: Announcement. Circle Mint on Noble still works as usual through Oct 12.
  • Oct 13, 2026: New minting of USDC on Noble via Circle Mint stops. Redemptions continue.
  • Oct 31, 2026: CCTP V1 burn limits start shrinking.
  • Jan 12, 2027: Noble USDC contract and CCTP routes pause. Circle snapshots remaining balances.
  • Jan 13, 2027: Manual redemption portal opens. No more Circle Mint or CCTP access on Noble.

Circle is not running an exit UI. Users should leave via a CEX that still takes Noble USDC, a DEX swap on Noble, or a CCTP V1 burn to another supported chain — before burn limits collapse. After Dec 1, 2026, CCTP V1 exits may only work toward chains that still accept V1 burns.

What IBC users need to know

Noble was built as the Cosmos issuance appchain. Native USDC lived there as uusdc and moved to Osmosis, dYdX, and other appchains over IBC, usually routed back through Noble so the asset stayed one hop from the mint. Circle Mint only recognized native Noble USDC, not IBC-transferred copies sitting on other chains.

That model is ending. Circle’s official line is that Cosmos is not being abandoned: Injective and other IBC-connected chains remain active partnerships, and USDC still settles Cosmos DeFi. Noble specifically is out of the CCTP V2 map.

Which chain is the official IBC move?

Injective.

Native USDC issued by Circle on Injective (USDC.inj) is being treated as the new canonical USDC for Cosmos/IBC:

  • Injective already has native Circle USDC plus CCTP V2 (domain ID 29), with the same token usable across Injective’s Cosmos and EVM environments via its MultiVM token standard.
  • dYdX Foundation is migrating collateral from Noble USDC to Injective USDC. Current dYdX balances and trading are unaffected today, but Injective USDC is not yet live as dYdX trading collateral — do not send it there until dYdX says support is on.
  • Cosmos Hub and Skip:Go are routing the migration. A dedicated Noble → Injective flow in Skip:Go opened around Sep 11, 2026. Osmosis Transmuter pools are another 1:1 path for smaller size.

So the practical answer for IBC: move official USDC exposure to Injective USDC, then IBC that asset to the appchains that adopt it. Do not treat leftover IBC-wrapped Noble USDC on Osmosis/dYdX/etc. as mint-redeemable with Circle after the pause.

What you should do

If you hold USDC on Noble

  1. Move it off Noble before Jan 12, 2027. Earlier is better (Oct 31 burn-limit cuts).
  2. Preferred Cosmos path: Skip:Go Noble → Injective USDC.
  3. Other paths: CEX deposit, Noble DEX, or CCTP V1 burn to Ethereum/Base/Solana/etc.
  4. If you miss the pause, use Circle’s manual redemption after Jan 13, 2027. Snapshot + compliance + a wallet you control. Watch for fake portals.

If you hold IBC-transferred “USDC” on another Cosmos chain
That is not Circle Mint USDC. Route it back through the current issuance path (historically Noble; going forward Injective) before rails freeze.

If you built CCTP or IBC apps on Noble
Remove Noble CCTP V1 routes before Jan 12, 2027. Point Cosmos flows at Injective USDC + CCTP V2.

Bottom line

Noble was the official Cosmos mint for Circle USDC. That designation is being retired with CCTP V1. Funds are still 1:1 redeemable. The chain the IBC ecosystem is standardizing on is Injective.

Not financial advice. Confirm denoms, routes, and dYdX collateral status before you move size.
