Inctober 2026: 10.10 - 10. Mystical
Today, I had plenty to reflect and pray about before starting work on an ink drawing for the Inktober 2026 challenge, as the day's theme was "Mystical."
First, I decided to explore the nature and origin of the word itself.
The Greek word mystḗrion refers to a mystery—something revealed only to the chosen few while remaining hidden from the many.
In Old Testament times, only the priesthood could enter the Holy of Holies to commune with God; for everyone else, the door remained closed.
The forgiveness of sins was achieved through the blood sacrifice of a lamb.
However, since Jesus Christ offered Himself as a sacrifice on the cross, He has become the very door between humanity and God the Father—a door that opens for any sinner who repents and accepts Jesus Christ into their heart.
A vision for the artwork began to take shape, inspired by the verse John 10:9: "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."

Having a concept in mind and bringing it to life on paper are not always the same thing, but I had to move forward.
Few people living in comfort turn to Jesus Christ; the path is more often walked by the suffering—by those who thirst—which is why the road depicted here is dry and cracked.
Many believe that everyone leaves a mark on this journey, yet God cleanses the repentant of the traces of all their past sins.
Next, I set out to depict the image that had formed in my mind after reading that Bible verse.
It remains to portray the essence of the sacrament of the cleansing of the human soul.
And this cleansing proceeds along the path of the Cross, which opens the way to the Kingdom of God.

I am not sure if I would open a door just standing there. My road was and is worse than what you drew...my attention went to what grows at the sides of the door. Are these huge roses?
What I do like is that this door is a simple one, not the expensive gate or door of a rich villa, which I would definitely avoid and never enter.
Since there are more ways leading to Rime, and any destination, it's more likely I would walk around it. What is old and damaged Unlike to keep safe from more damage. Enjoy your Sunday.

Most of my drawings are A5 size, with half being A4—just in case any readers didn't know.
I enjoy working in miniature format :)
And yes, roses are twining around the doorframe supports.

Great idea of interpretation, I think if I would see such a door somewhere in nowhere I definitely will open and check what is behind the door. On other hand there were many movies about the bad outcome of the exploration of such mystical door. But it is human curiosity and I think everyone will do that even knowing that it might end up badly but there is small % of chances that maybe t here is something good :)

I have never once regretted opening that door; it made me stronger in every respect, a bit more level-headed, and more discerning and demanding of myself :)

In my view, you have created a wonderful drawing, one rich in symbolism: a cobblestone path leading to a large doorway, flanked by roses growing as a climbing vine.
A doorway can symbolize the transition from one life to another. It is typically associated with changes and transformations—whether emotional, mental, or even religious.
It can also represent the contrast between exposure and shelter. After all, a house has a main door that marks the boundary between the outside world and the interior; for some, passing through that doorway can symbolize safety and protection.

Has realizado un dibujo maravilloso, desde mi punto de vista, cargado de mucho simbolismo: Un camino empedrado y una puerta al final del sendero, esta es grande y a su lado están unas rosas que hacen una enredadera.
Una puerta puede simbolizar el paso de una vida a otra diferente. Normalmente, se asocia a cambios y transformaciones anímicos, mentales, incluso religiosos.
También puede representar los contrastes entre desamparo y abrigo. No en vano, las casas tienen una puerta principal que limita lo exterior con lo interior. Atravesar la puerta puede simbolizar para algunos seguridad y protección.
