The elusive, chubby mouse.

Have you ever tried catching a mouse?

It’s no easy task, especially if a mouse has made its way into a room filled with enough furniture to give it plenty of hiding spots.

One day, up on the ninth floor, I heard a mouse scratching away behind the sofa.

How it got there was a mystery—it could have come from the attic, or perhaps I’d brought it in with a sack of potatoes where it had been biding its time.

Then, one fine day, the chase began—along with a fair bit of furniture-shuffling; after all, you do need to vacuum under the sofas sometimes, lol.

That mouse clearly had a souped-up engine inside; the moment I cornered it, it would manage to slip through a narrow gap and hide in another corner of the room.

I’m no cat, but I actually enjoyed it—a bit of a thrill is good for you now and then.

I felt like a real hunter staking everything on the catch.

But I have to admit, at one point the thrill of the chase sent my blood pressure spiking, and I had to take some Enalapril to bring it back down.

I was drenched in sweat from the pursuit, but I couldn't just leave the mouse in the apartment.

I started feeling dizzy, but I wanted the victory over the mouse to be the thing that made my head spin—not my defeat.

There was no bloody ending; I finally managed to trap the mouse under a glass jar, slide the lid underneath, and seal it up. My son then took it outside and set it free—hopefully, out of gratitude, the mouse won't come back to my house, lol.

But you know, the mouse was tiny and thin—clearly underfed—so it was acting out of desperation; that’s how it gave away its location and got caught.

A fat, well-fed mouse, however, is elusive; it has no need to scurry about in plain sight of people and give away its hiding place—it spends most of its time sleeping, and therein lies its strength!
