UNESCO World Heritage Centre
The World Heritage Centre is part of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). It was established in 1992 and coordinates international efforts to protect important cultural and natural heritage sites around the world.
Main responsibilities:
- 🏛️ Maintains and updates the World Heritage List
- 🌍 Helps protect important cultural and natural sites
- 🤝 Supports countries in preparing World Heritage nominations
- 💰 Provides assistance through the World Heritage Fund
- 🚨 Coordinates action when heritage sites are threatened
- 📚 Promotes education and public awareness about heritage conservation
The World Heritage Convention was adopted by UNESCO in 1972.
