Keeping a pet is a big responsibility

in #animals10 days ago

My neighbour has 3 dogs at her home and I wonder how does she manage them. I also see her making lot of sacrifices for them. From past many years she has barely had any lengthy vacations. She does not like to keep her pets with someone else or with helpers and go on holidays and even the dogs are very attached to her. Looking at her, I believe how big a responsibility this is. It is like having a permanent small child at home.

While watching a pet from a distance with someone else we do not realise how much of effort goes in. And one has to be ready to spend on them. Sometimes their expenses will be more than our own, they need their space, their special food, your time and so much more and if one is not prepared to do this then better not have them.

I write this because I came across a person who has kept a dog at home but barely takes him out for walks or does any special training for him. He lives alone so probably he needed a companion and got a dog for that reason but when I see the dog I feel sorry for him, because the dog is getting old and sluggish before his age.

Pets don't pause for anything, even if you are unwell, they need you. Anyhow you have to show up even if you are not at your best. While they may feel like a big responsibility, they are still like a blessing in life. I have seen my neighbour's dogs unconditional love towards her.

A pet isn’t a mood. It isn’t decor. It isn’t a trial run for having kids. It’s a living thing that will be confused the day you don’t come back.

El otro día vi que tu vecina cuida a 3 perros y apenas puede tomarse vacaciones; en mi experiencia, eso se siente como tener tres niños pequeños bajo el mismo techo. What I learned is that the cost and time commitment often exceed our own expectations, turning pet care into a real test of responsibility.

Tu lo has dicho tener una mascota conlleva responsabilidad y cuidados como si fueran hijos propios, no un objeto decorativo.
