Some Healthy Sweets
During festival times one thing we need to be mindful is about the amount of sweets we consume. Right now I am celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at my home. I am doing it for 5 days and every day I need to prepare some sweet for offerings to Ganeshji. Everyday it's a challenge to think what sweet to make, as it is I am not a person who relish sweets too much except for if it's anything to do with chocolate, as I love that.
Last evening I was thinking for today what to prepare and then hubby reminded me to prepare Dates sweets which I had made 3 years back during this festival time. Everyone had loved it and it was 100% healthy with absolutely no sugar. The only thing is that it's a task to prepare. The dates have to be pitted and a paste have to be made of it. It's very sticky and making the paste is a challenge. I decided to make it. There is a super market below my building only so I quickly went down to get the ingredients. To my luck I found a packet of date paste, this is like 60% of my work is done.
Sharing the recipe of how I made the Dates Sweet.
Ingredients
Date Paste (If paste is not found then the dates need to be soaked in luke warm water for half an hour and then they need to be pitted and then in a blender make a paste)
Mix of nuts as per choice cut in small pieces - I put almonds, pistachos and sesame seeds.
Grated coconut
2 spoons of ghee
Coconut powder for coating in the end.
Method
In a pan roast the grated coconut for around 2 minutes, do not make it brown.
In another pan, put the ghee, and then add the dates paste and cook it for 15 to 20 minutes. Continuous stirring need to be done so that it does not stick to the pan. If it sticks then add little more ghee. Add grated coconut, and keep stirring. Mix it all well.
In another pan, roast the mixed nuts until light brown.
Add the nuts also in the dates and coconut mixture and stir it for 5 minutes.
Once everything gets mixed up well and everything has come together like a dough and you start getting the aroma of the mixture, remove it from the flame.
Let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Grease the palm with ghee and make lemon size balls of the mixture. In the end roll the coconut in the coconut powder. Freeze it for couple of hours and they are ready to be served.
100% healthy and protein rich sweet this one is.
