The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Exodus 23, Post #3steemCreated with Sketch.

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Exodus 23:14-19

Elohim (God) continues this week by naming the three feasts that they will have every year to Him.

  • Feast of Unleavened Bread and he goes through the reasons why - taking them out of Mitsraim.
  • Feast of Harvest - first fruits
  • Feast of Ingathering - speaking of the harvest after it is done.

We have several more feast now, but back then, they had three.

He says they cannot offer the blood of his sacrifice with anything containing chamets (leaven) and adds that no fat will be left until morning. I have never experienced that one, probably because we make no offerings to him without a temple.

The best of your first fruits of the land will be brought into the house of YHVH.

"You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

This last one is the one that causes yeh-hoo-deem (Jews) to avoid cheeseburgers. That would make sense if we were talking about cattle. Besides that, in today's world, the cheese we buy is very unlikely from the milk of the mother since most beef is a mature bull. I think the goat would look at her young and know that it was being cooked in her milk. That is sad.

Today's Reading

English

"Three times in the year you shall keep a feast to me. You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. None shall appear before me empty-handed. You shall keep the Feast of Harvest, of the firstfruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor. Three times in the year shall all your males appear before YHVH God."

"You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the fat of my feast remain until the morning."

"The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of YHVH your God."

"You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."
